Well we had a doozy of a thunderstorm
on Saturday.
This wall cloud came in first.
Very eerie as the clouds above it
were going in an opposite direction.
My son Matt was outside and said it looked
like a tornado forming right above us.
Major rain and the river near our store
crested just to the South of us.
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
Mine was spent working on the final
details of my witch.
Did not like the first dress I made,
so it was back to square one yesterday.
This new one is a keeper.
Now have to stain and dress her.
I did this one the old fashion way too.
All my hand...which takes longer.
Will show once complete.
Today I wanted to show you my
intricate trunk.
The entire front is metal,
with these punched diamonds.
The sides and top are wood.
intricate trunk.
The entire front is metal,
with these punched diamonds.
The sides and top are wood.
It is big enough and sturdy enough
to have my crocks sit on top.
It is an early one on wooden wheels,
however I cannot date this one.
It has stumped me...so if any of you have any
ideas, would love to hear them.

Of course I had to add a bunny.
The portrait for those new to my blog
are my paternal gramma H's parents.

It will be a perfect addition

Cathy
Thank you Cathy! Hope you are having a great week too! Janice
DeleteHi Janice,
ReplyDeleteLove your old trunk! Hope you can find out more about it! It looks great in your display! Happy you made it through the storm with not damage, too! Looking forward to seeing your newest doll!!
Take care and have a great week, my friend!
Heart Hugs~
Julie
Thanks Julie. Have no clue the origin of this trunk. My witch is looking pretty witchy! Janice
DeleteI got caught in that storm in Northville. Scary driving!
ReplyDeleteLove the trunk!
Thanks Jeannie. Yes it would be scary driving in a storm. Yikes! Janice
DeleteThese big old crocks are fantastic! Wow, each one looks in perfect condition too. Crocks do add so much to a home and also have many uses besides preserving foods. I love all sizes of handmade crocks and always find a use for them in my home. Added to that, the old trunk and great photo of your paternal great grandparents are fine additions to your work. How lucky you are to have such a good photo of these old family members. Wouldn't it have been grand to spend time with them?
ReplyDeleteThanks Winnie. The one on the left is all cracked up...could not sell it that way...but I still love it. Every crock I have has STUFF in it. LOL Janice
DeleteYour trunk is a beauty as well as your crocks. I have one huge crock which was my paternal grandfathers in which he made wine. Actually, he and I made wine in it and brings back fond memories.
ReplyDeleteI'd have been scared with that cloud formation too, glad it was only thunderstorm for you.
Looking forward to seeing your keeper witch.
Thank you Saundra! How nice to have fond memories of your grandfathers crock and making wine in it! Still working on the witch. Janice
DeleteThe crocks are gorgeous. The metal work front grill on the trunk looks Asian or Middle Eastern to me. Maybe Spanish or Mexican. That opinion is based on no solid knowledge, just many years of watching Antiques Roadshow!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gail! It could be Asian or Spanish/ Mexican as you said. I will have to research those countries. Thanks for the tip. Janice
DeleteSuch scary weather these days! Hope this finds you safe and well. What a lovely old trunk and how you decorated with it is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYes the weather is not fun lately. The river is almost at the top of our dock. Thanks for your visit! Janice
DeleteThere has been so much scary weather and that cloud looks so threatening! The trunk is such a wonderful piece! Love the way you decorated with it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Will add more to the display for July 4th. Janice
DeleteHi Jan. I can't wait to see your witch. If you haven't followed me since last October, you might not know that I am known as the Cottage Witch. Your trunk is beautiful. I have my great-grandmothers but it isn't as fancy as yours. I'm sure she used it in the late 1800's so yours might be older..Thanks for your visit as always..Happy Tuesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteWitchy Poo is almost done. Yes I do remember you being the cottage witch! I also have my paternal great grandfather;s trunk. It came across the ocean with him from France in the 1800's. I keep my blankets in it. Janice
DeleteI think we have similar weather patterns. When we had hail on Saturday, that took me by surprise and we happy the gardens didn't get damaged. Love your display and I'm looking forward to seeing the witch. Halloween is such a fun time and my favorite time of year. I really decorate alot for it. Have a good rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteWe must have the same weather. I do love Halloween myself. The witch is almost done. Stay tuned. Janice
DeleteI hope the river level has begun to recede. All this rain now and it August we will be praying for it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful trunk!
The river has not receded. The canals are getting higher and some homes are flooding now. The rain we keep getting does not help. Thanks for asking. Janice
DeleteYou had me at “witch” - I can’t wait to meet her! Scary weather all over the place it seems...such a strange year. Beautiful crocks and trunk... I believe the trunk is Asian and likely 20th century at the oldest??? It’s really a neat and unusual size! ~Robin~
ReplyDeleteWitchy dear is almost finished. I am having fun sewing her by hand. Thanks for the tip on the trunk. It might be Asian. Will have to do some more research now. It holds my embroidery hoops and sewing notions. Janice
DeleteLove that trunk. What a great find. What great storm photography. It does look like a funnel. Glad your bad weather has passed. Looking forward to seeing your witch doll.
ReplyDeleteYes that storm cloud was eerie. Still finishing up the witch, but she is looking good in my opinion. Janice
