Hello friends.
Today I wanted to share with you
the various splint baskets I have.
You may wonder what the heck is a splint basket.
A splint is a thin strip of wood.
These splints were mostly made from
oak, ash and hickory trees.
Native Americans in the Eastern tribes
first brought these well made baskets into fruition.
They came in all kinds of sizes.
mostly square, but there are some round ones.
This is my biggest one.
This one someone whitewashed.
This one has seen better days...
but I still love it.
Large splints.
Smaller splints.
I love them all.
In other news,
Carla asked about my daughter.
She has not even mentioned
her headache issue to me lately
since Michael's car accident.
Maybe her focusing on him has made
them go away.
I will have to ask her.
Bob put the antique store up
for sale again.
He had an offer....a dumb one.
This guy wanted to purchase our building,
have Bob sign a 10 year lease and continue
running the business.
Say what?
Why would we do that when we dont
pay rent now, we own the building
with no mortgage and we want to sell.
The nerve of some people just amazes me.
Yesterday morning we had freezing rain.
Bob told me to come home because it was
getting bad...so I left work before lunch.
Drove in it for a few miles,
but by the time I reached home it was raining.
Thank goodness.
The thunderstorms rolled in the evening,
and then another round early this morning.
Sunday night out towns tornado alarm
went off just before a thunderstorm arrived.
We were not sure why because it was
really not that bad....I have seen worse,
and also been in a tornado before.
Crazy weather.
Well have to get ready to go back to work.
April Blessings To All!
Janice
That was an incredibly dumb offer. What was he thinking? I spent part of Sunday in the basement -- a tornado went down within 10 miles of us. It didn't look like it -- till the sirens went off. They expected them last night but all clear.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful collection of baskets!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stupid offer. I hope someone comes forward with something good.
We had tornado warnings too, but there were tornadoes around here, it was crazy! We had storms again yesterday but no freezing rain.
I love your basket collection-when we were much younger we bought so many awesome things at garage sales and at a few auctions. I wish I would have kept more of them but I sold them when we moved to Missouri. Love seeing your vintage handwovens too-those are special.
ReplyDeletethankfully no snow or ice here where I live but lots of rain right now
Happy April Hugs Kathy
Oh I adore those old baskets! They’re so versatile. That’s crazy about the guy who basically wanted to rip you off. I heard about all the storms hating are coming. I sure will keep you all in my prayers that there’s no damage, flooding and tornadoes!
ReplyDeleteHi, I LOVE BASKETS. I love your collection.
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been very goofy. We had thunder, lighting, and snow all at the same time yesterday.
Thank you for the update about your daughter.
Carla
You have some lovely baskets. I have a few prized ones but I am trying not to collect anything. Glad you got home safe and sound we had thunder this morning while it was sleeting. Crazy weather.
ReplyDeleteCathy
That was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard - the way the people came to you for this deal - glad you said NO!
ReplyDeleteGood luck selling and I am glad you came home and avoided the ice.
I had a friend selling baskets at one time - Longaberger baskets - they can be very expensive.
I haven't met many old baskets I haven't loved. You certainly have some beauties. (And I, too, love all the old textiles they are holding.) Glad you had no issues with the freezing rain. We had two ice storms and snow as well. Love of trees down and broken limbs, power outages, etc. Stay safe and cozy!
ReplyDeleteHi Janice. I love baskets but don't have any really old ones. I finally got my dining room primmed up and am trying to get the nerve up to start in another room. I packed alot into the dining room so might have to move some of it around. We had a tornado warning the other day in our area which is normally known for just earthquakes. It didn't materialize though thank you very much. That was a crazy offer for your store. It takes all kinds, I guess. Good luck and Happy Spring..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteOh I do like your baskets, every one of them!
ReplyDeleteThat WAS a crazy offer!!!
Great baskets!
ReplyDeleteHappy weather was not a factor in your drive home.
Good luck with the sale of your store.
