Last Wednesday driving home along the river
around 8:30pm or so, out comes this deer.
I slammed on my brakes doing 50 at the time as it ran
across the road just in front of me
across the road just in front of me
heading towards the river.
My purse goes flying off the seat...so does the craft bag.
At the moment I did not care about picking up the contents from the floor...
at least I did not hit Bambi.
Go back about 7 years ago,
driving on the road that runs parallel
driving on the road that runs parallel
to the northern end of the state land near me,
I again almost hit a deer.
That time however, the buck stopped in the middle of the road
blinded by my lights and just stood there.
I was able to stop just in time... however he was literally in front of my car.
He was so close that I could count the points on his rack.
He was an eight pointer.
Some of the guys that I work with
told me that I should have hit him just for the rack.
told me that I should have hit him just for the rack.
I however was glad I did not hit him.
Has anyone else out there ever had a near miss of hitting an animal?
Or have you been unfortunate and hit one?
Curious to know.
Blessings to all,
Janice
Janice~ glad you didn't hit the deer~ so dangerous~
ReplyDeleteWell, I have hit them~
One morn at 3:30 am headed to work~ I stopped in the road for an entire heard of them~ one kicked my car but that was it~
Then a couple months later I hit one~ did so much damage to the bottom of my car~ I was ok, but the doe was a goner~
Then a few months ago coming to work had a huge doe run into me~ jumped 1/2 way over the car & hit the passenger side~ ugh, she got to me~ she died as I stood beside her~ still haunts me~ did a lot of damage to my car, but I was ok~
We have so many in our area my husband hunts them, the population needs to go down around here, ruining crops, too many folks hit them with cars, plus afraid of them getting diseased~
so becareful avoid them pretties with your car~ they are a beautiful animal aren't they~ hmmm~ just stunning!!

I am so glad you are okay and didn't hit the deer. We live in the country and there is alot of woods around and they even come out in day light.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful you didn't hit the deer because you could have been badly hurt, like one of our friends was hurt when she was driving home from dropping her son off at a friends house. The deer ran right in front of her and she said it happened so FAST, she couldn't stop. She was banged and a broken wrist, I guess form holding onto the wheel, but she felt so bad for the deer. We are all animal lovers so it really to this day it bothers her.
Please be careful out there.
Have a great day.
Prim Blessings,
Tricia
Thank the Lord you didn't hit it!
ReplyDeleteI have had plenty of near misses with squirrels and turkeys and unfortunately I have hit one animal. While driving my oldest daughter's boyfriend home one afternoon(who btw, I do not like at all) a fat groundhog ran right in front of me and I couldn't do anything about it. I felt absolutely horrible and even turned the car around to see how bad he was hurt and if we could take him to the animal rescue guy. But he was beyond help and I made all the kids in the car say a prayer for him.
There are alot of deer in my neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteOne year before Christmas I was driving down a country road and two deer ran across the road I slowed knowing they usually are in packs of three ~ oh where is that third deer? I was going very slow 5-10 mph ~ yep I found him ~ he ran right into the side of my car ~ boy they cause alot of damage. Glad you didn't hit yours!

Janice, So thankful you did not hit that deer. You could have been hurt and we know what they can do to a vehicile. I have never hit one but came close a few times. They are everywhere around here. They completely ate all our veggies this year in our garden. Mr. P. tried everything to keep them out. Stay safe and have a great week.

Janice so glad that you were able to stop.We have lots of deer around us and have had a few close calls too.A friend of mine lost her life do to the fact that she hit a deer and it went through her windshield and the antler pierced her chest.Very scary to have a deer run out in front of you.Have a great week.Hugs,Jen
ReplyDeleteWhew....close one....or two. Glad you were able to avoid them. Me, not so lucky - I had one huge one total my Jeep many years back. But,it truly did hit me - it wasn't me hitting it. Came right across the road and hit me broadside. Yikes....Hope to never have that happen again. Robin
ReplyDeleteI got hit by a deer a few years ago at Christmas time. Guess what song I heard all season. You got it, Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer! He had a rack, did a lot of damage to my car, but jumped up and ran off.
