Loving The Red & White

It's the start of a new week.
On top of the 6 inches of snow the other day,
more came on Friday and Saturday.
Thursday before the funeral I was stuck in the snow.
A good samaritan who drove by tried to get me out...
but he made me get stuck even worse.
So much that the only way to get me out
then was for my neighbor to pull me out
with a chain hooked up to his heavy duty truck.
We have a small driveway...and with all of the cars,
I had to park on the grass.
BIG MISTAKE.
Oh well,
we got out and mom and I were on our way.

Yesterday evening Bob and I went to his cousin's home,
for his family Christmas party.
Food was great and it was nice meeting new cousins,
I had not met before.

This post will be the last of my red & white theme.

I am so over the moon with this year's theme
that I am going to carry it over into
VALENTINE'S

This is a linsey woolsey blanket I rescued.
It has holes and patches...but I so love it.

I made this pillow from vintage fabric way back.

We have grayish green walls in our back room.
The red and white looks so good in here.

Next is another Santa I made years ago.

This is a vintage redwork pillowcase
that I tucked inside the basket.

Cozy corner.

With yet another sweet red and white quilt.

A snowy winter day.

Around every window garland hung up

with red berries.

Finally my sweet horses.

With Santa ready to take his ride.

Tucked in a small Christmas basket on its side.

Finally, I forgot to show you
the box that holds our big tree.
I love old boxes and this one always holds our tree.

Not only does it hold our tree,
but Shadow kitty likes to jump in each day....
and sleep in there.
I have a little blanket inside,
and he must feel safe and snug.

That does it folks.
I had loads of fun decorating this room.
{alas I neglected the kitchen this year}
Only a few touches in there.
Oh well..there is always next year.

I have other Santa's to feature from this room...
more of them on another post filled Santa one.

Until then,
may your days be

Red And White Part Two

Let it Snow
Let It Snow
Let it Snow.
And snow it did.
Six inches of the white stuff fell.
The river was foggy and the freighters were
blowing their horns.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy it,
as yesterday I had to drive my mom
to my great aunts funeral.
My gramma B's last sibling passed away.
Auntie Clara as we called her was 101 years old.
She was the last of her generation.
My mom is now the oldest of the next generation.
She is 83.

Auntie Clara was a fun full of life person.
She lived through many many firsts.
From horse drawn carriages to cars.
Seeing a man land on the moon.
Computers, cell phones and even television.
Fast food restaurants, freeways and airplanes.
So many things were invented during her life.
We will miss your smile Auntie Clara.
Until we meet again.

Back to my red and white themed room.
Part Two
{the decor}

Quilts.

Stacked in our pumpkin pine cupboard.

I love rescuing quilts.

If they are either red/ white

or blue

They usually come home with me.

Next is my lil' vignette.
{not sure where that purple line came from}

A candy cane candle in front of a
White Christmas song sheet.

Vintage enamel gasoline numbers.
These were the numbers used for gasoline prices;
before the digital signs came into being.

Taking center stage with a tiny mini white lighted tree,

and Santa pillow.

Here's hoping Santa does stop here
on the 25th.

A Red And White Christmas

Happy Wednesday everyone.
We had our first snowstorm the other day.
More to come today.

Speaking of today...this year I decided
to have a red and white themed Christmas
in our back room.
I have lots to show, so this will be in parts.

Part One

 THE TREE

Red lights.
Two different sizes of white lights.

Candy canes and snowflakes.

Glass icicles.

Our seven foot tree.

Handmade candy canes.

Made by me.

Different sizes of snowflakes.

With snowflake ornaments.

A bit of silver in it too.

I could sit in here all of the time.

Even though I have my more primitive trees
 in the living room.

This is my favorite one this year.

Part Two in a bit.

You Better Watch Out

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
I made only half of my cookies.
Will need to finish the rest this weekend.
I also took time to watch some Christmas movies,
whilst I hooked a bit on my rug.

Well it's the start of another work week for me again.
With the days shorter this time of year,
it is much harder to wake up early...
but wake up I must.

However this time of year the big man is watching.
So I must be on my best behavior. ;-)

Bob and I were on a buying trip in Florida
4 years ago right after Christmas.
We were also visiting with his sister while down there.

When we came upon this jolly ole elf,
I knew right away he had to come home with us.

This is my display with him this year.
Part of my red & white theme in our back room.

This was last year's display.
A few ornaments this time
with the tree in a large pantry box.

The year before I had him in the hall.
The tree had more ornaments, garland and candles.

He watches over me each year since.

So I better watch out.

Have you been on the naughty or nice list so far?
Myself I am trying very hard to stay on his nice list.

Tree Updates

Good morning everyone!
While the weather outside
will be frightening,
I will be toasty and warm inside.
Making Christmas cookies is on my agenda.
This is a Christmas tradition that gramma B
started in our family with her polish cookies
like angel wings,  thumbprints and kolachis.
Then my mom made spritz cookies,
cherry snowflakes, and others.
Now I make Church Windows, Peanut butter blossoms,
and more.

I did finish decorating my little tree.

I want to thank Julie from
 Primitive Heartstrings
for suggesting to add baby shoes.
{they are a great addition Julie}

They look perfect... along with bundles of peppermints.

Mini acorns and metal stars.

Turkey feathers towards the top.
An antique tinsel star takes the center stage.

Plus silver mercury garland.

All finished.

Also added a few fabric pears.
Very homey and sweet.

Now for my other tree.

Raffia garland and more peppermint bundles.

Corn cobs, quince

and a few of my dollies.

Angel on top for a festive corner.

This is our living room corner.

To the left of the tree is our tv.
{I don't like to add it in my pics}
Although I love the primitive style,
I do have the modern comforts.

The wagon was a
birthday present from Bob
many years ago.

I added my dad's favorite Christmas plant.
Red Poinsettias.

I use faux plants for my kitties.

Night time view.

Our corner blue cabinet.
Filled with stoneware pitchers and
ginger bottles.

What are your plans for the weekend?
