Getting My Winter On

Saturday in between working on bunnies,
I decided to get my Winter on.
Even though there was no snow
on the ground until Sunday evening,
I decided to start taking some
of my Christmas down.

I don't like the long dark evenings,
so keeping up the trees and lights,
keeps me in a better mood.
I just take the ornaments off for another month.
Maybe add new ones fitting for Winter.

I also like to create Winter displays.

Create I did!

20+ years of collecting,
with so many wonderful antiques,
affords me the opportunity
to mix and match to change with the seasons.

This display greets folks as they come
through our front door.

Do you keep any lights up
during this time of the year,
or do you take everything down?

On another note,
my aunt Louise who is also my godmother.
She knitted these wonderful mittens
I showed off in my last post.
She is undergoing surgery Monday
for 2 masses in her brain.
I just found out yesterday,
so if you could,
please say a wee prayer for her.
Much appreciated and thank you.

Getting My Winter On Blessings To All!
Janice

  1. I will keep your aunt in my prayers. I still have my tree up and the candles in the windows but I do think it will all come down this weekend

    1. Thank you Julie! PLus thank you for saying a prayer for my aunt. It is worse than we first thought. We are in for some rain the next few days turning to sleet, so am not looking forward to this weekend. UGH. I would rather have snow. Janice

  3. Prayers for Aunt Louise. So scary.
I always have electric candles in many windows and lots of little lamps with silicone bulbs. My house is never dark, but it still isn't as magnificent as the Christmas glow.
I have always wanted one of those little crocks with the 3 blue bands, but they have sure skyrocketed in price so I guess one is not in my future...sigh.

    1. Yes and now it is worse than we originally thought. Very scary indeed. I purchase that wax sealer crock as it is called by another dealer for $125. They are worth much more now. Janice

  4. There's no sign of Christmas anywhere in my house; kind of a shock, for sure when the lights first come down! I always enjoy seeing your displays no matter what the season!

    1. Thank you very much! I so enjoy creating displays! I probably should have been an interior designer. I did start art school but changed direction and became a banker. Now I am a commercial loan officer. At the time I did not want to be a starving artist. Janice

  7. Christmas is just a lovely memory in our house now! I take it all down and clean and dust and get ready for a long winter's nap! However, the weather has been so nice...a little snow here or there but it melts away when the temps reach the 40's. It's suppose to be 60de and rain on Saturday. So weird for Northeast Ohio in January! But I take each day like that as a gift because I know it won't last! Love your Winter display..and I certainly will keep your Aunt in my prayers.

  11. Janice, so sad to hear the news about your aunt. Prayers will be said for all of you. I love the simple way of draping the greens over the portrait. I still have most of mine up but am whiddling away slowly but surely. The lights are helpful with the dreary days we are having now so will keep them for awhile longer..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
