In The Good Ole Summer Time

Hello friends.

I just recently realized I had not shown

you pics of the gift shop for

Summer Time.

Here are just a few. 

Unfortunately the small space is no longer

conducive to creating different vignettes.

Everything is just put out now on shelves.

I do miss having the actual store,

but I do like having my weekends back.

Not having a separate room for holiday displays

is also bringing me down.

I will no longer be able to bring alive a theme

for both Halloween and Christmas.

Am a bit disappointed in that as I so loved

putting together my yearly themes.

I thought with Bob adding in another fireplace

it would be alright, however I feel it just

does not have the vibe the actual store did.

Bob and I are going to decorate for Halloween

this week, but it wont be the same.

The ceiling is too high and the lights

 are not changeable.

Just hope our customers are understanding.

I know our worker is already sad about it.

Anyway life goes on.

In other news,

I an taking Wednesday thru Friday off

this week from work.

Am picking up my mom and her and I

will be doing the yearly antique trail

in our neck of the woods.

This is not as big as the I27 one,

but my mom and I have been doing this one

for years and years.

Hope to find some treasures.

More rain on tap for today, but not complaining.

I feel so bad for those in the path of

Hurricane Debby.

My SIL lost power down in Florida.

Thankfully her son brought her over a generator.

Same SIL that had the heart attack....

and she is supposed to not get stressed out.

Well off to work, then Vacay for a few days.

Friday Finish

 TGIF Friends.

WOOHOO I have a finish.

If you remember I decided to change 

up the colors on this piece.

I went with the called for orange, 

a yellow and brown.

When I kept looking at the pattern,

I saw the two pumpkins and a sunflower,

plus the leaves at the center bottom.

I also changed the date from 2023

when the pattern came out to this year.

Completed this into a pillow

and rag stuffed like I do most of my pillows.

Doesn't it look sweet in this basket on top

of some flax fiber.

For those not familiar with flax,

this is what linen is made from.

The fibers I have here is the raw form which

 would be spun on a flax winder box...

somewhat similar to the spinning of wool.

This is one of my most prized possessions.

This is a flax winder.

I keep this in the guest room and it never gets moved.

Am too afraid the wood needle at the end will

break off, so it stays put.

The needle spins the flax.

In other news,

Bob has a birthday on Sunday.

He will be a young 61.

Happy Birthday Hon!

We received bad news about his sister.

She was in the hospital last week because

of her heart.

Looks like she had another heart attack.

Now her heart is at 20%.

They sent her home with a heart vest

and she is suppose to calm down and quit

being so stressed out...not likely she will do that.

She is the baby of his family and is only 58.

My granddaughter Mikayla got her first car

last night.

We are going out to dinner with her,

her brother and my daughter tonight so  

I will hear more about it then. 

She will be a senior this year and also has a job,

which I know she has been saving up for a car.

She also has a GPA of 3.9% so we are

very proud of her.

Well have to get ready for work.

Our Trip To The Island

Earlier in the month,

 Bob and I decided to go to

one of the islands near us.

Most are only accessible by boat,

some with homes and others just wildlife.

Some folks even own their own island...

again only accessible by boat

One by car ferry.

The one we visited is called Harsen's Island. 

From our house to the ferry is a 6 minute drive.

This is the island where I had taken my grandkids

on a yearly trip over to have lunch until

covid hit.

The restaurant just re-opened this year.

The grands were too busy to join us this year.

It is a short ferry ride.

5 minutes across the North channel.

Here we are sitting outside

the restaurant on the South Channel

on the island.

This is the channel where the lake freighters travel

from Lake St Clair to the St Clair River

where we live by.

Across the channel is Wapole Island.

It is a Canadian Island which starts just to

the north of our dock at home and continues

along the islands in the channel.

Here comes the first freighter we saw that day

coming from the lake.

I forgot which one this was but from the 

Canadian Algoma line.

The second one also came from the lake.

This was the Innovator.

This is not a freighter,

but a reticulated barge.

It is in normal words, a tug boat attached

to which once was a freighter.

They cut the freighter in the back to insert

 a permanent tug boat.

The third and final freighter

coming from the St Clair River.

This was the Calumet.

Another Canadian freighter.

Loaded tater tots for an appetizer.

Then we ordered a meat lovers pizza.

With a pitcher of beer.

We spent 2 hours at the restaurant.

Just enjoying the weather and peacefulness.

Leaving the restaurant I drove to

 the southern end of the island.

The 2 objects on the right in the lake are the

lighthouses that use to aid the freighters

into the channel.

The one black object to the left of the lighthouses

is the GM center in Detroit.

On a clear day you can see it.

By car this would take us an hour to get to

in Detroit.

Getting ready to go back home.

The ferry is coming in to dock.

Its the red ramp.

Going back now.

With another ferry heading to the island.

On holiday weekends, they use 3 or 4

ferries to transport cars.

That day they had two going.

I could not afford living on this island.

The ferry ride is $15 round trip.

This is why we only go once a year.

Residents pay $13.

In other news,

my vacation is over. UGH

Back to the grind.

We All Need To Be Patriotic

Good morning friends.

Today is the last of my patriotic displays.

At this time we all need to be more patriotic.

We should be proud of our flag.

The color red represents valor and bravery.

Blue perseverance, justice and vigilance.

White for purity and innocence.

The 13 stripes for the original 13 colonies.

The 50 stars for the 50 states.

My father and his brother both fought in 

the Korean War.

Both were shot.

My dad was a Democrat.

My uncle was a Republican. 

Both were proud to be an American.

Both gave their views of their political party 

without fighting. 

Both flew the flag each and every day except

when it rained.

I saddens me that most folks are turning

away from our flag.

Why is it we no longer care about our flag?

George Washington and his fellow patriots

fought for this country to be free.

I fear for our country now.

I always set something up for my mom

next to the bed. 

In other news,

Today is or wedding anniversary.

Bob and I have been married for 15 years now.

This is both our second marriage.

We are planning on going out for dinner tonight 

to our favorite chicken and rib joint.

We know the meal will be good.

My vacation week is almost over. UGH

Well off to get me a cranberry orange muffin

and some orange juice for breakfast.

I love the muffins that our small town grocery 

store bakes in house. Bob brought them home

yesterday and they were just made.
