Do you remember these?
Hello Friends and happy weekend!
When Necco went out of business,
conversation hearts were doomed too.
I have heard another company has
now taken over and will be making these
sugary sweets once again.
New England Confectionary Company
(NECCO)
was the oldest candy producer in the U.S.
starting un the 1840's.
Sold in 2018 to Spangler,
which sold the recipe to another company.
What was left in stores inventory was sold in 2019.
Spangler did start producing NECCO candy again
until last year.
My conversation hearts are non fattening.
No sugar.
Made from plastic canvas and yarn.
Stuffed and sewn together.
Did you eat either Necco candy or
conversation hearts?
Candy Blessings To All!
Janice
Yes I ate both. In the wafers my favorite was the grey/black licorice. Thanks for the trip thru my youth because as an adult I don't recall eating them. But now they are gone would love to buy a roll of Necco wafers.
ReplyDeleteI actually only liked the chocolate Neccos. Did not like the rest of them nor the conversation hearts. I do love my chocolate though. LOL
DeleteI did eat them hard as a rock those conversation hearts!
ReplyDeleteI like the ones you made very sweet
Cathy
Thanks Cathy! I only liked reading the sayings. Janice
Delete"BD" (before diabetes) I ate the candy hearts. Your hearts are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly! Never cared for any of them myself. Love me a good piece of chocolate though. Janice
DeleteYes, I did eat them, but liked the message better than the candy. Your hearts are best of all!
ReplyDeleteMe too. Just liked reading the sayings. Janice
DeleteYep, I ate both and still do when I can find them! Your hearts are so cute and I'm sure anyone would love to get those messages from you! Have a good Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yaya! I enjoyed reading the sayings. Janice
DeleteSweet hearts Janice.... (get it? "sweethearts"?? LOL). I have eaten both the wafers and the hearts when I was young, but do not like them one bit LOL. I was happy when they came out with a sweet tart version..... Hope you enjoyed your Sunday! ~Robin~
ReplyDeleteLOL Thanks Robin! Sweet tart version is better, but still like chocolate better! Janice
DeleteJanice your canvas stretched hearts are wonderful!! I am also happy to learn that a new company will be making those favorite heart candies we all grew up with. I shall look out for them this month as I always loved the fruit flavors.
ReplyDeleteI have always been more of a chocolate gal. I did like the chocolate Neccos only. The others tasted like soap to me. LOL Janice
DeleteLOL! I didn't even realize they were gone.
ReplyDeleteYours are sweet ;-)
Too funny! Janice
DeleteThey are cute!! My husband has always loved conversation hearts and the past few times I got them, the only ones i could find were Brach's and he always complains that they are not the same as the Necco!
ReplyDeleteThe Necco ones did have an acquired taste. Janice
DeleteI never liked the way they tasted but they were always so cute you just had to get them! Love your stitched versions more!
ReplyDeleteMe neither. I just liked reading the sayings as well. Janice
DeleteCute hearts Janice! Yes, like Saundra I ate both as a child. I liked the wafers best, especially the cocoa flavored and the licorice. I grew up in Medford and went to Revere beach often when young with my grandfather - we drove past the Revere NECCO building every time! Jan in MA
ReplyDeleteThanks Leslie! I only liked the cocoa ones myself of the Necco candy. How cool to have seen the actual factory where they were made. Janice
DeleteJanice, I remember those and did eat so many when I was about 11 that I got sick. I think I would have liked yours better. So cute and I love your header too..Stay well..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy. I never really liked either except the chocolate Necco ones. Janice
ReplyDeleteYes, I do remember the candy hearts, and ate a lot of them. 'Did not know about the company's history.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Danice. I actually dont like either of these candies, but love the history. Janice
DeleteI remember this happening. Think I saw the new ones in the store recently. Wonder how they taste. I remember getting boxes of the old ones in my Valentine box at school oh so many years ago.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I do remember getting these in my valentine box at school. We use to make them from shoe boxes. We were given various papers. pencils, glue and other items to make them pretty. Janice
