Bedroom Reveal 2023

Before I get started with part 1
of our bedroom redo,
I would like to wish all of the mom's
a Happy Mother's Day!
We took my mom out for dinner last night.
Today we celebrate my granddaughter's
sweet 16 birthday party.
Then afterwards us kids will be
taking my mom out to dinner again.

Just a recap of what the color use to be.
Colonial Blue and Crisp White.

The bottom two drawers is the new white.
Benjamin Moore Ballet White
This one wall and trim are this new color.
The walls are now Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Gray.
It is a prim blue gray color really.

We moved the bed to the wall by the windows.
This gave me more room to decorate
how I wanted to at the end of the bed.

A new vignette for this table.

Up close.

Look at all of the bug holes in this piece.
I believe it was some type of bucket with
possibly a leather handle since no handle existed
when I purchased this. I added twine to the holes
on each side to hang.

This wood tankard is from the 1700's.

A German ginger beer bottle.

The two crocks I normally kept under this table
were moved out for this ovoid one.
Added some faux fern for Spring/ Summer look.

Bob made this cabinet and painted it black for me.
The basket holds his heart loop monitor to the right
of the lamp. The wool hides it from view.

Opted to hang my bunny rug here.

I like to have some kind of bunny in each room. LOL

View looking from inside the door.
Tundra acting up.

Say hello to everyone Tundra.

At the end of the bed now is this prim table.

Placed the penny mat I made on the table.
I coffee stained this piece to mute the green.
Not even sure why I added green to it in the first place.
Not a fan of green as you all know.
Did add a pewter compote with three pieces
of stone fruit that match the penny mat though.

This Windsor chair is the real McCoy.
I purchased this from an antique friend who has since passed.
She sold me this chair and the crock earlier in my post
as she knew I would cherish them as she did.

In person you can see the original wood,
the layer of blue paint from the 1800's
and then the black from the 1900's.
This chair is from the 1700's.
A small tick pillow and top hat sit on it.

My side of the bed has this ovoid jug
with some Spring flowers inside.

It sits on top of this rug piece.
Forgot to remove this other stone fruit, LOL

Wider view.

On the rack is this linsey woolsey blanket
and gathering basket.

The Paul Revere light.

Not sure yet how I will decorate the remainder
of the hooks on the wall.
Guess this can be another post at some point.
The room will remain like this for many years.
No plans on moving anything more.
Will show the other sides of the room redo
in my next post.
Will just make minor seasonal changes.

I am most asked what inspires
you to decorate?

I love my prim magazines.
I love Pinterest.
Lately I love You Tube.
When Bob and I first started in the antique business,
I purchased all kinds of magazines.
I told Bob lots of folks want that magazine look,
so we bought items that were featured in
magazines where we could.
We would display our wares in vignettes to show
others how it would look like in their homes.
It was always a hit and we re-arranged our
entire 1000 ft booth monthly.
We became the owners best selling vendor.
After many years, we decided to venture out
and found our own store.

With Bob's health it is hard for him to move
furniture now, so this is why I am doing
each room in our house one more time...
and the furniture will stay put.

In other news we had a visitor to our
front yard the other day.

This female quail just hung around.
I have not seen a quail since I was a teen,
so was thrilled to see her.
Also glad she stayed so I could grab my phone
to take a pic.

A Look Back

Hello all of my friends!
 Way back in 2012,
was when we first remodeled our bedroom.

We had brown linoleum floors.

Still not even sure why the homeowner who built
this home added three windows like this.
We have them in both bedrooms.

The closet door was this flimsy bi-fold wood one.

Bob re-configured this area to have one closet here
while having a built in cabinet with drawers he made.

The new configuration allowed his and hers closets.
We share the cabinet.

Bob also trimmed out the windows more in the prim style.
The paint colors I chose then were colonial blue
and a crisp white.
I wanted to get away from the brown.
Before we primed the walls those were also brown.
Imagine a whole house in brown linoleum
with brown paneled walls throughout.
That's what we had.

These next pics are various ones I grabbed.
just to show some after pics of our first redo.
Peepers one of our kitties who has since passed
loved being on the bed.

The new closer doors that were out in at the time.

This cabinet is now in our kitchen.

The pine table at the foot of the bed
now resides on our guest room.

I really loved how our bedroom looked like,
however I am over the moon in love
with the color and design I have now chosen
for our room makeover.
Stay tuned for the reveal.

In other news.
I know I have ranted about this before.
I will probably get some of you mad at me.
7 horses died at the Kentucky Derby this year.
10,000 to 15,000 of racehorses are slaughtered
each and every year.
If they dont make their owners money,
off they go to these Kentucky stock auctions.
Then sold for slaughter.
We unfortunately have a holding farm which is only
10 minutes from us.
They are held for a few days,
then shipped to Canada for slaughter.
It is so sad to see a livestock truck come in.
About 40 horses are shoved in and since
they come from Kentucky, no food or water
until they get to this holding farm.
Nothing will change until we stop watching on tv.
Nothing will  change until no one goes to the track.
Nothing will change until we get the word out.
I use to own a horse.
Never would I have been able to send him to slaughter.

Well better get to work.

Look Back Blessings To All!

SS Kewahdin

Living along our mighty river for over 20 years,
I have seen many things go up and down this river.
The Staten Island ferry came by en route to
being upgraded once.
Have seen many boats and freighters.
Once I even saw a 2 story house on a barge
float by.
It was being moved to one of the many islands here.

Last week the SS Keewadin floated downriver
assisted by 2 tugs.
(pronounced KEY-WAH=DIN)

I took several pictures up until she passed by.

This ship was built in Glasgow, Scotland in 1907.
She was a passenger liner that sailed between
Port Arthur
(now known as Thunder Bay)
and Port McNicoll.

She was 336 ft long with 4 coal fired boilers.
108 staterooms and held 288 passengers
86 officers and crew.

Her maiden voyage began across the pond
on 9/14/1907 and began passenger service on
10/7/1908 until 9/14/1965.

Her purpose was to take passengers between these
port cities where the Canadian Railway
stopped at both the east
near Lake Huron and west near Lake Superior.

It took 2 1/2 days one way at a cruising speed
of 16mph or 26km.

In 1967 she was towed to the Kalamazoo River
as a museum for the Michigan town
of Saugatuck.

2012 found her being towed once again
back to Port McNicoll to be restored.

Winter of 2022 she was donated to the town
of Kingston, Ontario to be once again displayed
as a floating museum.
Let's hope this journey is her final one and many
who visit will enjoy the history of this fine passenger liner.

In other news,
we finally had some sunshine yesterday after
5 days of rain. Our lawn is spongy.

Bob and I decided to add some antiques into
our gift shop...maybe in a few weeks.
When we first started in the antique business
we created vignettes with flowers and my crafts.
We are once again going back to our roots so to say.
Just a small section for now.
Trying to evolve.

Well hope you enjoy your weekend!
Looks like we might have a nice one.

Weekend Blessings To All!

Spring Past

 Hello my friends!
I was going through my old Spring pics,
so I thought I would share some with you.
The earliest was from 2016.

This was my dad's suitcase.

Going through these pics a lot has changed
in seven years.
I actually started blogging in 2011.
I will continue to blog for as long as I can.

In other news,
we might get dome snow today again.
Mother Nature it is May now.
We had a rainy weekend.

Last night after we closed the stores
we drove a half hour to one of our fav Italian
restaurants. Wanted to take FIL there as he
was craving some eggplant parmesan.
Just our luck they were out of eggplant.
He had lasagna instead, but did like it.
Its a family owned restaurant and the food is good!

Well best get to work.

Happy May Blessings To All!
