Let Christmas Begin

Hello friends.
With Thanksgiving over,
it's onward to Christmas.
From now until mid December sometime...
I will be posting every other day
as I always do for the Christmas Season.
Today starting with my 2 mantles.
Hope you enjoy this year's tour of rooms.

In other news,
Thanksgiving dinner was a hit.
My sister did not disappoint.
The food was delish.
If you went home hungry shame on you.
No one went home hungry...trust me.

It was nice seeing my kids and grands
all together.
We caught up on things.
We all sat together at the table,
including my mom.

However my mom did not interact with us.
She just focused on eating her food.
Very odd, but it is what it is.
She is still lashing out at my sister.
Does not want to do her home therapy exercises.
Lied to me saying she was doing good,
when I know she is not.
Even after dinner asked her to show me a few.
I knew she was cheating on doing them....
because the ones I asked her to do were
the same ones I had to do myself when
I had my frozen shoulder issue.
I did call her out on it.
She did not lash out at me though.
I also told her if she does not want to help herself,
then she would not be going back to her home.
She had out patient therapy yesterday,
and lied at the questions the therapist asked.
My sister told me what happened.
I have no idea what should be done.
It is so hard because I love my mom...
but if she is giving up then who knows what
we should do.
We are planning on having her take
a dementia test in January.
My sister now thinks she may be getting it.
Guess she needed to see for herself.

Looks like some snow is moving in today.
Anywhere from 3-6 inches.
Tundra will like it.

Let Christmas Begin Blessings To All!
Janice

  1. Your hooked ornaments look cute on the tree. Sorry about your mom and know it bothers you. But am glad your sister gets to see what condition she is in.
It is COLD here and possible flurries but that's it. Until later in the season when I'm sure I'll see some accumulation.

  2. Before you decide, make SURE you check to see if she has developed a UTI... They start out slow then come on with a vengeance. All sorts of symptoms. Disengaging...dementia like reactions...anger...

  3. I will love seeing all your home photos decked out for the Christmas season!
I love your 3 stripe canning crock. I have wanted one forever, but decades ago when they were $100-$125, I would not pay that, but now!!! That would be a total bargain 🤷‍♀️
Poor mom. I know it is hard on you and sometimes it is so difficult to face reality. Not easy to watch a beloved mom aging.
Hugs and prayers for all of you.
    Let the Christmas craziness begin.

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving.
I'm so sorry for what you are dealing with, with your mom. It's not easy.

  6. Your decor is beautiful as always! I look forward to seeing your posts and get some inspiration for my own home. I'm sorry your Mom is having a hard time and that hard time goes on to her children to try and deal with it. I understand and truly hope it gets better. If she is experiencing dementia, perhaps medication will help her. Anyway, sending prayers for you and her! Happy late Thanksgiving and we're supposed to get some snow also.

  7. I enjoy seeing your home's decorations thanks for sharing. Sorry about your Mom, she may do better in a care facility that will schedule the exercises and can't say no to them. sad situation I know. My Mom was doing well until she had a terrible fall-she woke up from the operation with full blown dimentia-not sure what happened. no fun getting older for sure.
I look forward to your posts hugs

  8. I used to collect the old vintage Santa's but gave them all away when we moved up here. I prefer the primitive-type Christmas decor the best. I still have a few I have kept.
That's so sad about your mom. She might be giving up due to depression as well.
It sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and all that food! And snow for Tundra! Stay warm.

  9. I’m glad to read you are bringing back the every-other-day Christmas posts. Your decor is always so fun - and your mantels this year are beautiful as always. I’m sorry, too, about your mum. Like “Kathylorraine” above, my mom had a fall, had surgery, and woke up with full-blown dementia. No one could explain it and it was horribly sad. There has to be a reason for it. We’re in the midst of a snowstorm - predictions of 6-12” and it has snowed all day. So it begins.

  10. I'm no doctor, but perhaps she was under anesthesia too long. Elderly people after surgery are quite foggy for some time.😔

  11. Hello! It's so lovely that you've officially kicked off the holiday season! Your mantles are absolutely stunning, the way you've mixed the greenery, candles, and sparkle is just beautiful and perfectly sets the Christmas mood. I can't wait to see the rest of your home tour. www.melodyjacob.com

  12. I love the crocks and the mantle greenery looks so lush and real - the feel of a perfect old-fashioned Christmas. I am sorry to hear about your mom. Perhaps a home health aide could be scheduled and do exercises with her - that way they can see her doing them, and she knows that she’s doing them correctly. I think the holidays can be hard-not so cheery for everyone. Maybe she’s thinking back, maybe she’s wanting to be in the kitchen making her rolls, doing what she’s always done. I’m sure it’s a scary feeling. I’ll be thinking about all of you - and hoping that there is a caring doctor/nurse who has some helpful suggestions.
