As the saying goes...
We needed a new couch badly
in our living room.
So like another saying
Bite the bullet...
we ordered a new couch.
We decided it would be a Christmas present
to each other.
It took 6 weeks to arrive.
Also it was made in the USA.
It must be a nice once as it was
Tundra approved. LOL
It is a brown tweed and we had it
scotch guarded as we knew Tundra
would be on it.
Now that the weather has turned Winter like,
we keep a blanket over the couch...
we dont need it ruined by Tundra either.
I took brown floss colors with me
to the furniture store.
These brown colors were in the red chair.
It is hard to tell, but there are two
shades of brown in this chair.
There are also browns in the rug...
which is why I wanted a brown couch.
Well after we ordered the couch,
our tv in the keeping room died on us.
Working at the bank every now and then
I am given award points for referrals
or great customer service.
Because I am retiring, I need to use
these up or lose them.
to purchase items within your point value.
With that I was able to get this tv for
FREE.
Although it is not as big as our last one
which was in here before...
it will do.
Since this one is a bit smaller...
there is room behind it now for more
things to add to this wall.
It sits on our antique Jenny Lind table.
The trunk underneath was
my paternal great grandparents.
This humpback trunk came from France.
The shadow on the left is my fat self. LOL
In other news,
we had 6 inches of snow on Sunday.
Driving to work Monday morning was a bit rough.
My mom's UTI test came back negative,
so that is good news...but still puzzles us
on why she cannot use the bathroom
when she should.
I am seeing early signs of dementia with mom,
but my sister is refusing to think that.
However she is already exhausted taking
care of my mom and it has not even been
a full week that she has been with my sister.
The weekend is almost here.
Will finish up my Christmas decorating
at some point this weekend.
Are you starting your Christmas decorating?
Thursday Blessings To All!
Janice

Free is fantastic and could live with smaller too.
ReplyDeleteI have already hooked a rug for my SIL so her Christmas gift is done. My grandson wants money so there's only my son to worry about.
Good morning, I love your new couch looks comfy your fur baby seems to love it too smiles awesome on the tv too. starting today we will be in the 70's for three days pretty nice but then the weather crashes again we have had no snow or ice here at the lake.
ReplyDeleteI have never decorated too much for Christmas-we didn't have children but I did buy a balsam hill table top small tree that I will bring out to decorate for me some years-I may do that this year. hugs Kathy
The couch looks very nice! It's so hard to find the right color - good idea to bring floss along. A free tv is great!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the continuing issues with your mom. It's a very hard thing watching parents age.
I haven't started decorating yet, but am thinking about it!
I could live with a smaller new TV if it were free. Your new one looks the perfect size for the table. I hate the thought of looking for furniture. I'll probably get the current couch recovered again or maybe make a slipcover if it starts looking tatty instead of buying new.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the changes in your mom. Is it possible the bathroom issue is a cause for the mental changes, or the other way around? I wonder how much your sister's (and your brother's) attitude about helping with your mom (financially, actually physically helping, etc) will change after she's done it.
Christmas decorating is absolutely not allowed inside the house until after Thanksgiving is past. I might get the bins from the attic if it's going to turn really cold, but put them up...no way. DH might put up his outside stuff before depending on weather forecasts.
Hi, I like the couch. We purchased a made in the USA, Wisconsin in fact, couch a few years ago, in a shade of dark brown.
ReplyDeleteWe lay a blanket on it for Ernie. ;-)
Yay for the new TV.
I am praying for your mom and your family. These are stressful days, I remember from when we had to make decisions regarding my grandma.
Nice looking couch and that tv being free is just the perfect size.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to get old.
Couch looks great!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about mom. It's good that your sister is having a reality check. And she expected you to do it while working full time!
I normally don't start decorating until after Thanksgiving, but with it being so late once again this year, I will start next week. Turkeys will be residing with Christmas trees! It will definitely relieve some of my self inflicted stress!!!
Your couch looks lovely and the color is pretty! Doggie approved is always the best! That is wonderful that you were able to get your TV free! Good wishes for your mom's health issues. No Christmas decorating as of yet.........but soon!
ReplyDeleteOh a comfy cozy spot to curl up in over winter - that’s great timing. And a free tv - you can’t beat that! I know where I’d be spending all my time. U Caregiving is exhausting (I do know) - but then so was child-rearing - somehow, it’s a repayment of sorts. But still, the caregiver needs to take care of themselves as well. I really do understand. I hope the holidays can be happy for all of you.
ReplyDeleteGreat sofa! The sofa I have here is the same one I purchased with a chair (both for $40) from my aunt and uncle when I went to college. They were the old scratch mohair...with saggy springs so you didn't know for sure you'd be able to get out and up once you sat down. After a few years of marriage, we managed to be able to afford to have the springs retied and have them recovered....and they've been recovered twice since then (probably could stand it again truthfully). I would like to have gotten a new sofa, but we have a strange configuration in our living room with the circular staircase...and the fireplace and windows so there is only one place where a sofa can go...and a regular size one won't fit (and never any of the oversized ones they have these days!) Ours is called an apartment size I guess and it will have to do. Nope, no Christmas decorating here. I don't do Christmas until after Thanksgiving but, like Lauren, will consider starting earlier this year given how late Thanksgiving is....but I will have to manage to get Halloween down before then. Continuing to keep you (and your mom) in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI love your sofa and that was a terrific break, having the TV points. Who needs the extra expense, especially at this time of year. I"m thinking maybe your sister will have a bit more empathy for your experience with your mom as a resident now that she's into it. I'm a Christmas-after-TG person but I've started bringing up some things and stashing them in the guest room for quick work on the 28th (or maybe Thanksgiving Day). I'll have Rick bring the tree up on TG. I'm having a house guest on Dec. 2 so I want that up by then and maybe she'll help decorate it. By then the other trees will be up and in place. Just have to get through the art sale!
ReplyDeleteI have not started Christmas decorating yet..........still enjoying the fall decor. Your couch is lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour new couch looks comfortable.
ReplyDeleteWow free tv, pretty good!! :)
No decorating here yet. I wait till the first week in Dec.
