Hello friends.
Today I wanted to share with you
my collection of 2 gallon crocks and jugs.
I prefer the 2 gallon ones as they are easier
for me to move around.
I do have a few larger, but those dont
get moved around so much.
I once had a 30 gallon one where
it held drawings and magazine articles
I ripped out. I sold it and cleaned up my act...er mess.
My favorites are the blue slip ones.
Each unique.
Some had wood lids while others had a crock one.
Back in the day they were very important
to any household.
Storing pickles or making sauerkraut.
Others for aging cheese or dairy products
such as milk or butter.
You might find salted meats in some
or even preserved eggs.
The jugs more often than not,
held whiskey of some sort.
This one is a favorite of mine...
because of its wonky shape at the top.
It is not an even one at all.
Am so glad it was not destroyed
after it was taken out of the kiln.
It has a beauty all to itself.
My grandmothers and even my mom
had many crocks.
They made sauerkraut and pickles.
It was a stinky mess while doing it,
but the results were wonderful...
health wise better with no preservatives
and tasted great.
In other news,
Today am picking my mom up early.
We have a funeral to attend.
My dear cousin lost her daughter at 41 years.
She had an aneurysm.
Bob decided to have 20 bags of mulch
delivered to the house Thursday.
We will start mulching next week.
Planted a few annuals in one pot.
Next week will go and purchase more
as I do not like to overwhelm myself.
we lost over Winter and replace with
Double Play Doozie Spireas pictured above.

I am sad that my Bluebeards all died...
even my neighbor lost shrubs over
this Winter.
I believe it was due to the wet Winter we had,
with the colder than usual Spring.
Last night Bob grilled us up some smashburgers
and toasted pretzel buns.
I made a broccoli salad.
We ate outside and then had our first bonfire.
Made some Smore's and drank a couple beers.
Came inside went the skeeters came out.
What are your plans for the last weekend of May?
Oh What A Crock Blessings To All!
Janice

You have a great crock collection. I really like the ones with blue too. I have one from Bob's mom, but it's just the standard shape and has no blue.
ReplyDeleteWe lost a few plants too. It was a tough winter. :(
Good evening, I love your crocks-we had collected quite a few over the years too. and I did make a big batch of sauerkraut in one of the crocks and canned it all-soooo good.
ReplyDeleteI have been working in my perennial gardens as well-things are finally looking good-we have had lots of rain here as well
happy new week Kathy
I am sorry you lost some plants. Twenty bags of mulch and you will need more. Wow. I am sorry about cousin that lost her daughter at 41. Too young.
ReplyDeleteHello! I am sorry about your cousins daughter! Condolences!
ReplyDeleteI love crocks but I truly never ever find any in my area! No where!!!
Sounds like a nice evening eating those Smores! lol ,I'm jealous!
ReplyDeletehugs

Great collection! I especially love the ovoid one with the huge 2! Ironically I just bought a 2 gallon crock yesterday. Just what I didn’t need…another crock!
ReplyDeletePrayers for your cousin’s family. I just cannot imagine the pain of losing a child 😢
Oh I like your collection of crocks! The real kind and not a crockpot! Those must have been awfully heavy to work with back then.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of your loss. So young.
Not doing much this weekend. Reading and just hanging out.
Condolences for the loss, especially at such a young age.
ReplyDeleteQuite an odd combination of smores and beer, but then I don't like beer, lol. Nice crocks.
Be careful mulching. It can be hard on the back! (Ask me how I know!) Aren't backyard barbecues fun? And I love your crock collection.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great crock collection my friend. I, too, love the slip blue salt glazed pieces. Yes...the sauerkraut. My mom made it every year. I have her big kraut cutter and one of her crocks. I lost a ton of perennials and shrubs. And what did survive are being devoured by rabbits. I think I've given up and won't replace things. :-( Your dinner sounds wonderful. What I wouldn't do for a grilled burger and toasted bun! So sorry to hear of your cousin's daughter. So tragic.
ReplyDeleteThose crocks are awesome! I too love the crooked one because I know if I tried to make one it would come out like that! My beautiful, red azalea didn't bloom this year. First time ever but I think the frost here got it. At least it didn't die. We just put down about 40bags of mulch and I need about 10 more to finish. We didn't mulch last year but this year we have 2 events here...a baby shower in 2 weeks and a family reunion in October. Trying to make the yard and house look company ready! Not plans this weekend. Just enjoying sunshine!
ReplyDeleteA great crock collection and I love them all!
ReplyDeleteWonderful crocks I have a few I use one for onions and one for potatoes. One is a garbage can,one holds newspaper for the fireplace and one is full of birdseed.
ReplyDeleteVery useful
Cathy
I enjoyed seeing your crock collection, Janice--you have some beautiful old ones! I have a small collection myself that was inadvertently started for me by my middle son when he began buying them for me at Goodwill. I think I have four or five now :) Not as nice as yours, but I love them! That's so sad about the death of that young woman. Good luck with the mulching--one of my least favorite things to do. Happy June!
ReplyDeleteThe skeeters, you had me laughing, not everyone says skeeters, yep, they have hatched out here too. Hee Hee!
ReplyDeleteYour evening sounded very nice.
I love pretzel buns.
I have two more beds to mulch. It has been HOT here, in the high 80's. And no rain, so I need to get the job done, the soil needs protection.
I love your crock collection, thank you for sharing.
