Going Green

Yep you heard me right.
I am going green with my prims.

If Spring won't come to me...
I will bring it to myself.

With my own green plants.

Although you usually do not see
green as being a primitive color,
it goes rather well if in the right settings.

Green artichokes for one.

More green artichokes.

Green leaves and flowers on a cabinet.

Green leaved garland.

Green striped fabric for a ditty bag.
Ditty bags were used by sailors and held
their sewing items and toiletries.
My bunny one has felt violets
which I made to fit inside.

Lamb's ear in a pitcher with lavender.

Green pear mixed in with others.

I know pears are a Summer fruit,
but I just they looked so good here.

Even my stitchery has some green in it.
I love the gray green house and the green shamrocks
lining the border.

I am almost finished with this sampler.
It is a design by
Notforgotten Farm
called
"Sepia Sampler"

I changed the colors just a bit.
I wanted my shamrocks to be more of a soft green.
I also used the same color
for all of the letters and numbers.
The pattern called for alphabet to be a different color.

I am not liking this time change.
Wish they would stop doing this.
Not good for this old body. LOL

Hope everyone has a good Monday.
More snow today.

Spring Bath Look

Thank you for loving our settle bench as much as we do!
As I stated before it is our kitchen table.
We have four 1800's chairs and two early 1900's one
that fit around it.
This is the first time I have made it into what it was used for.
In earlier days as I said in my last post,
these benches would have been near a fireplace.
They would turn them into a table when eating,
and leave up when not in use in the Winter months.
It kept the heat in.

Before our roof started leaking,
I was contemplating how I would
decorate the home for Spring...
so wishing it would come soon.

So much so that I have started
to add some into the bath.
{Pre- leaky roof}

I added these bloomers to the left,
and hung up my black shoes.

These bloomers are special.
See that hole. The middle of these bloomers
have the opening for our foremothers
to use the bathroom.
Because they had to wear so much clothing
bloomers were a big
 convenience back in the day.
If you notice some of the early movies...
even Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,
there is a scene where the woman are all in their bloomers.
However because they were dancing and singing,
they were not true to the time period...
their bloomers we not open in the middle.

Back to the bathroom.
I changed up each shelf in the cabinet Bob built.

Mirrors still the same.

Just added some early stockings.

Top shelf has a Spring bouquet
in one of my favorite wood boxes.
I bought the doll from Ruth
whose house I featured a few posts ago.
I love her Ruth...still cannot believe you parted with her.

Soaps

Bottles, boric acid tin and shaving brushes.
The one on the left was my dad's.

More soap in a white crock bowl with a soap saver.
A soap saver was used to hold small pieces of soap.
Once there was enough,
it would be melted back down and shaped into a bar.
Bottle in back.
{bottle label is a reproduction}

A hooked mat I purchased from a Dawn's store.
Holly Hills Primitives.
Bowl of dried orange peels and lamp complete this look.

I moved my flowers from the bedroom into here for now.

The bird carving is an egret.
These birds come back here in the Spring...
 stay until Autumn.
Still waiting for them to arrive.

I will be pulling more of my Spring decor
down from the attic tomorrow morning.
Plans were changed to purge it out this weekend.
We now have a funeral to go to...
which is not fun.

My best friends mom passed.
I have known Peggy since I was 18 years old.
Almost 42 years.
Please keep my friend Carmel in your thoughts.
She is not taking this very well.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Kitchen Table

Snow Snow and Snow.
Here in Michigan
they say we normally get 6.2 inches of snow in March.
Well March 1st we had 4.
Today we had 1 inch and suppose
to get another inch each day until Friday.
Now I hear that the East Coast is getting hit with
yet another Nor'Easter.
OK Mother Nature....
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Like many of you, I am so ready for Spring.

However it looks like not much Spring decorating
to be done around here this year.
Our roof was leaking last week.
I noticed water on some of my bins up in the attic.
Bob went up and said we needed a new roof yesterday.
The new roof was put on yesterday.
So now the attic must be cleaned out.
Sprayed for possible mold and re-insulated.
This means all of my bins and stuff
needs to come down from the attic.
I dread this...I have accumulated so much stuff.
Bob wants to make 3 piles.
Garbage, Keepers and White Elephant.
My mom's church has a yearly sale that they call
the White Elephant...so much will go there.
Wish us luck in this. We will need it.
I am an attic hoarder...and I am not kidding.

Now for my post.

We have had this settle bench a few years now.
It is our kitchen table.
I decided to change my corner of the living room and
show off this wonderful settle bench.
For those who do not know what a settle bench is,
they were placed in front of fireplaces
to keep the person sitting in it a bit warmer,
and to keep the Winter drafts at bay.
{pre furnace days}

For my corner design,
I decided to add an early rug to the back.

My black dollie in her new scarf.

Accompanied by her friend.
Making memories together.

A bit of history.
Settle benches would have either blankets or pillows
so that it would soften the seat for those sitting on them.
In my case I added a blue tick pillow
so that my dollie friends would be comfy.

I then added my blue basket on top of another splint one.
I tucked in a crutch right in the corner.

To the right my make do lighting,
ovoid blue slip jug and a feather basket.
I ordered some beeswax candles to replace my red ones...
but they did not arrive yet.

The morning light in here is the best.

This completes my new corner look.

For anyone who is wondering what we are doing
for a kitchen table now...
I traded out my brown table for our kitchen one now.
It is the same length.

Icy And Dicey

And other news around and about.
First a big thank you for those who commented
on Ruth's warm and awesome home!

This morning I made breakfast.
Toasted and buttered english muffins,
with canadian ham, melted cheese and scrambled eggs.
Our version of the McDonald's kind.
Along with crispy bacon.

March came in like a lion here in Michigan.
With rain, freezing rain turning over to snow.

This was our backyard during the snow.

Our side yard. Where the snow ends is the start
of the state land. This is why we have many
critters. It is 1400 acres where we have
fox, coyotes, wild turkeys, deer, opposum, raccoons,
turtles who come and lay eggs in our yard each year.
Plus the many squirrels and birds.

A part of our front porch again looking towards
the state land.

Now for the other news.
We had to get another rug.
Our kitties did not like the other one we had.
They were using it as a litter box.
We do not know why....but we could not get the smell out.
This new rug is a lower ply.
So far so good.

A smaller one at our side door.

The new rug is like our antique one
in our living room. No fluff.
Maybe that's why Ace likes it.

Shadow too.

Peepers is just not liking his pic taken here.
He is giving me the evil eye.

They all do like the other rug now.
Peeps goes behind the couch where it is warm & lays down.
Shadow and Ace are either under the table,
or on the couch...or on us.
All is good now....let's just hope it stays that way.

Today's agenda will be working on my cross stitch.
I promised myself I would finish this old project,
before starting another one.
Will see how long that lasts....

What will you be doing this Sunday?

Sunday Blessings To All!

A Friends Home

Ok, let's try this again.
Thanks Krishna for letting me know that the pics
did not show up.
Please visit Krishna at
From A Girls Mind blog.

Good morning dear sweet friends.
I spent a few days with my mom.
Started a new cross stitch pattern I had bought
many moons ago.
Came back early today before the impending storm hit.
March will be coming in like a lion over here in Michigan.
We are suppose to have 6 inches of snow today.
But first the rain is coming in, changing to freezing rain.
So glad I am home.
Bob is off to the store, but may come home early.

So today, I would like to feature a customer/ friend
named Ruth.
She has an awesome colonial home.
I will let the pics tell her story.

Thank you Ruth for letting me feature your
wonderful home!
Stay warm and safe today my friend.
For my other blog friends...please stay safe as well
if you are affected with any storms today.

Supper tonight will be an Amish Corn Chicken Soup
with grilled cheese sandwiches.
Something warm to keep us toasty inside!

Do you have a favorite Winter time go to meal?
