Mid Summer Time View

WOOHOO
it's the
W E E K E N D
It will be a busy one for me.
I have to get all of my chores done today.
My mom will be here later on.
Tomorrow we have our second annual family reunion.
So glad my cousin decided to do this.
Like most families it seems,
we hardly ever see one another anymore.
I will be bringing a crab pasta salad.
Not sure what mom is making yet.
Then on Monday mom and I are going to spend some time
looking for a dresser for our bath remodel,
and then doing lunch on the island.
Later on I will be back at the endo for a re-check of my tooth.

As Summer winds down now,
so will my decorating.
For now I will leave you with some pics of our back room
in all its Summer glory.

The lazy days of August are not just for dogs.
I know Shadow.
"You have such a rough life"
We rescued him as a wild kitty 3 years ago..
and he much prefers the house now.
No outside for him. He hates it.
{on rare occasions he sometimes goes out in the catio}
Not often though.

Like the waters of our big blue river today,
hope you all have a sparkling weekend!
Any plans on how you will be spending yours?

A Crow Amongst The Oak

Howdy sweet friends!
Happy Hump Day to you all!
Yesterday was our anniversary and Bob
grilled porterhouse steaks, baked potato
and even made brussel sprouts.
He decided to surprise me, and it was a very nice
surprise indeed!
Thanks again sweetie!

To continue my acorn theme this year,
it was only fitting to create this pillow.
Grabbed some wool and fabric and came up with this.

Seeing all of the crows lately on my drive to and from work,
I had to add this fellow into my creation as well.

Brown and orange oak leaves.

Plus the acorns.

Which turned into a lovely Autumn pillow.

Stuffed with pieces of fabric remnants from other projects.

The pillow measures 12 inches square,
while our gray pillow is 20 inches square.
{to give you an idea on how big it is}

The background fabric is a tan and off white one.
The leaves, acorns, crow and stems are all from wool.
The veins in the leaves, acorn stems and crow's feet
were sewn with embroidery floss,
using straight and chain stitches.

While the back of the pillow is a muted orange and tan fabric.
Upper left is the sewn patch where I filled the pillow.

I so love how this one turned out.
I usually fill my pillows with fabric instead of fiberfill.
I like the lumpy feel to these pillows...
just like our foremothers would make.

If interested, please email me at
primsbythewater@yahoo.com.
This is a OOAK so only one available.
Price is $40.00 with free shipping.
US residents only.
Pillow has been SOLD.
Thank you Ruth!

Wait til you see my jack-o-lantern I am working on.
May be hard to part with him.....
Am also thinking I might make one more of these pillows
for myself...only a bit bigger.
Will have to see if I have time.
Show is coming up soon, and already even our
store customers are asking
when I am bringing in my goodies.
Never enough time.

Are you thinking about Fall yet?

Royal Shoe Proclamation

HEAR YE

HEAR YE

By Royal Shoe Proclamation
of Sir Bob

I, Janice have a propensity of purchasing
too many shoes.

Yes friends you heard it first here.
I have enough shoes according to Bob.
I am by no means Imelda Marcos in which I have
a closet full of shoes.
My problem is purchasing antique ones.

I so love them, and well when I saw this
adorable pair in our store from a vendor of ours....
they had to come home with me.

Since I so love antique shoes,
I thought I would talk to you tonight about
concealing shoes.

Have any of you heard about this before?

Concealing (hiding) shoes came about as early as
the 14th century.

By concealing shoes in chimneys, walls,
 under floorboards, in the roof,
around doors and windows and even in ceilings
would protect the living from
ghosts, demons and witches.

Witches were believed to be attracted by the human scent
of a shoe, and after entering one found themselves
trapped as they were unable to reverse their spell
upon entering a place with a hidden shoe.

Also the belief that shoes had the power to protect
against evil was said to have succeeded in trapping
the devil in a boot, a legend that may have its origin
in a more ancient folk belief, in which the Church
was attempting to convert one into an
"Approved Christian Rite".

Concealing shoes was also thought to capture
or repel a troublesome spirit, or harmful demon.

Others perceived concealing shoes as an intention
to bestow fertility to female members of the household.
There is a long standing connection
that concealing a shoe served as a fertility charm.
which exemplifies the nursery rhyme
"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe"

Which reason is more accurate one may never know.
Concealed shoes have been found in homes and buildings
throughout Europe, Australia, Eastern Canada
and The New England states.
Of the shoes found when renovating these early homes
and buildings, 98% were baby shoes.
The most commonplace where the shoes were found,
were in chimneys and hearths.
For whatever reason this practice also died out in
the 20th century.

Maybe next time I find another pair of antique
shoes or boots, I should tell Bob it's to rid our home
of ghosts, witches and demons. :-)
Do you think he will believe that malarkey?

Aren't they cute though?

{Still on the hunt for some black and red ones}

Boney Shell

Hello all. Are you glad its Friday?
Well yesterday's root canal did not go as planned.
In fact after two hours patiently sitting in the chair,
my dentist tells me he is referring me to a specialist.

W H A T ? ? ?

You've got to be kidding?

Were the two statements I made to myself.

Yep, he was not able to complete the procedure.
It was too infected and he thought he would
compromise my bone structure.

Today I prepared myself for the worst.
I probably was going to lose my tooth.

The surgeon today was very thorough.
He explained every part of the procedure.
Stopped every now and then to make sure I was ok.
Showed me before and after xrays.
However this time after two hours,
not only did he finish the root canal,
but he saved my tooth.
I came home and slept for a bit,
and if not for the squirrel cheek, I would be fine.
I have to take amoxicillan and ibuprofen and
rinse my mouth twice a day with this medicine,
but will live the tale.

Unlike my dear fellow the skeleton key.
He is my latest creation, and I thought most
fitting to add into my boney tooth tale (post).
You see I lost quite a bit of bone from the infection,
and now it is filled with collagen.

Well friends, off to the store with Bob for a bit
to check up on things and then going out for dinner.

Garden Glory

To say that I am tired tonight is an understatement.
I am spent, pooped out and drained.
Between work, therapy and this tooth it has become
quite exasperating.

Besides our gorgeous river,
my front garden makes me happy though,
so let me get to my happy place.

Autumn Joy Sedum is telling me that
Autumn is just around the corner.

The butterflies are loving their bush.

Hummingbirds and dragonflies love the honeysuckle.
{Above the petunias on the trellis}

Orioles, Jays, Sparrows and Goldfinch to name a few
are enjoying their bath.

I have also spotted the hummers at this butterfly bush too.

Creeping Thyme is just starting
to show off it's purple flowers.

Hydrangeas are popping out as well.

As Autumn approaches our Dogwood will once again
lose it's leaves and show off it red twigs.

For now the Geraniums are bursting in red.

While our garden bunnies watch over the real bunnies
as they come in at dusk.
{looks like my birdbath is off kilter a wee bit}
LOL

How does your garden grow?
Is it in it's splendor?

Have a triumphant evening my friends.
It's off to the couch for me.

Hag Witch

The moon has awoken,
with the sleep of the sun.
The light has been broken,
the spell has begun.

{Author Unknown}
Hello my friends!
Hope everyone is enjoying the rest of the weekend.
Am doing my regular chores this morning,
and will spend my afternoon stitching.
I have been perusing my small wool stash,
and decided to work a bit with my wool.
Sneak peek at the end of this post.

Today's post with feature my latest witch.
Simply called
H A G

She is ready for the full moon.

With her primitive broom stick.

Her black check dress is perfect
for night outings.

She loves hiding out amongst the gourds.

Tending to her garden during the day.

But as the evening grows dark,
she looks to the sky for an evening flight.

So if you see her up in the air.
Just remember its her time of night!

Now as promised...this is my stitching for today.

No hoop, just some free hand Autumn goodness,
that will be stitched to this tan flowered fabric I found.
An Autumn pillow which will be sold at my show.

Oh yeah...I also wanted to show you the tile for
our bathroom.

The star pattern will be our floor.
The stone will be the floor in the shower.
Subway tile all over with a black stripe in the middle.

I had every intention of going classic black and white,
however when I saw this...it spoke to me.

The color is more like a gray green,
and has this old world charm.
Perfect for the prim antiques I want to include in this room.

Cousin Jimmy our contractor is coming over tonight
for dinner and then will look over our dimensions...
tile to be ordered this week sometime.
Looking forward to having this completed soon.

Well my friends off to stitch.
Hope you find yourself doing something fun today!
Let me know what's in store for your day.

Hag Blessings To All!
