Monday Montage- On The River

What a busy week I had.
Wednesday- Antique Club Meeting
Friday- Gathering of friends and neighbors
Saturday- Major Spring cleaning..I know I am a little late
Sunday- Bob's daughters took us out for dinner.

Oh yeah,
this is what we did on Thursday.

We took a river cruise.
We booked this the week before and Wednesday night
they were calling for severe thunderstorms.
I was looking at the radar constantly before heading out.
It was also so hot out, that we sat inside in the air.

Mikayla in her shades.

Michael

My daughter and her new beau Joe.

As we were heading out of the Black River into the Big River. (St. Clair River)
A thousand foot freighter was heading up the river.

Heading towards the Blue Water Bridges.
The clouds were coming in and I was getting a bit worried.

Just starting to go under.
See those thunderheads in the background.
We were starting to go out into Lake Huron.

Almost directly under. This was awesome!

In the lake now with more clouds appearing.

In the background is the Ft. Gratiot lighthouse.
This lighthouse once assisted ships from the lake into the river.

Back at the dock one and a half hours later.
In the background is the old railroad bridge that was lowered over the Black River.
Soon it will be torn down as the trains of old do not pass through this location any longer.

Oh yeah, 15 minutes after we were off the boat
the sever weather hit...we completed our tour just in time.

Hope you enjoyed the pics!
Summer Blessings to all.

Happy Hump Day

It will be another hot one here in my neck of the woods.
If any of my friends here are also in this heat wave,

Stay in your homesteads in the air if you have it.

Grampa H use to have a saying...
well he had many sayings.
This one came to mind today as I looked out at the hazy river,
knowing that it is going to be a whopper of of a hot one today.
Today's saying is about life.

If Life hands you a watermelon
Just EAT it.

Grampa H would use all kinds of fruit and veggies with this saying.
In other words, you cannot always control
the things that happen in life,
but you can always deal with it.

So today,
I life happens to hand you something,
 eat whatever your heart desires

Happy Hump Day.
It will get better.
Blessings to all.

Monday Montage

So how often in our business do you get to go out on a pick
in a pole barn and then afterwards eat pizza with the owner?
That's exactly what Bob and I did last Friday.

We are so blessed and we truly meet the best folks!

These are a few of the items we were able to purchase.

Blue dry painted table with a drawer.
Plus the trencher on top.

Red Painted Chest.

Opened.

Black Victorian Shelf.

Blue Chair.

Some Crocks. Notice the turkey dripping on the jug to the left.

Wouldn't this corner shelf look good in your home?
The Ginger Crock on top we bought too.

I also kept two items for our home.
Will show those at a later time.

Take care everyone.

A little late again

This is getting to be a bad habit.
I was unable to feature Friday Fun Facts
as Bob and I were out on a pick.

It was great success as we were able to buy some awesome items
both for the store and our home.

Stay tuned...

Now before I give out the facts,
I was taking a picture in my kitchen when I spotted something unusual.
Below the bowl, notice this white spot towards the left.

Our little Ace found himself a hiding spot.

Geez mom, I was trying to sleep here...

Guess he loves our prim cabinets as much as we do. LOL

Now for the facts.

1. Lightning strikes about 6000 times per minute on Earth.
( I hate lightning)

2. A golden poison frog is so poisonous it can kill nearly 15,000 people.
(Don't kiss this frog. He won't turn into a prince)

3. Americans use 16,000 tons of aspirin yearly.
( that's a lot of headaches)

4. You blink more than 10 million times a year.
(Bob and I started seeing how many times we were blinking.
Bet you will to after this)

5. Peanuts are one of the ingredients in dynamite.
(Now don't go making up a batch)

6. Just a gram of venom from the king cobra can kill 150 people.
(Stay away from these critters too)

7. During your lifetime, you will eat about 60,000 pounds of food.
that is the weight of about 6 elephants.
(why did they have to compare this to elephants?
Could they not use 10 giraffes or 20 zebras...just saying)

OK, so that does it for this weeks fun facts.
Monday Montage will feature the items we bought yesterday.

I want to thank everyone for your comments.
I may not be able to answer all of them,
but I want to let you know that I appreciate each and every one.
Thank you.

Stay cool if you are a part of this heat.
Weekend Blessings to all!

Monday Montage- Shades of the Season

Pull up a chair.
Grab a spoon or fork.
Come sit at my table that I pulled out specially for you
from our store

Enjoy some fresh fruit salad I made for you today
while you looking at today's montage.

All about strawberries.
Vintage two sided wood sign.

Nothing better than fresh washed strawberries in a vintage colander.

On my counter ready to cut up. Yum

If you like the non- fattening kind.
I whipped these up as well.

Then there is my sampler that I finished.
With strawberries!

If you want to stay and enjoy.
I'll leave the light on for you.
Thank you to Betty from
primitivebettysblogspot.com
for this wonderful pattern!

Strawberry Blessing to all
Take care

Friday Fun Facts

I cannot believe it is Friday already! TGIF everyone.
You know what today is...
Fun Facts

Actually on a Friday
Mark this on your calendars, I was on time. LOL

This cabinet was from the Pennsylvania Dutch area.
Circa mid 1700's
(thought you might to see)

Now for the facts....

1. Forest fires move faster uphill than down.
(that is scary since I'm sure you have to go downhill to get away from a fire)

2. The sun is 330,330 times larger than the earth!
(it does not seem that big in the sky)

3. Wayne and Brent Gretzky hold the NHL record for most combined points by 2 brothers. Wayne: 2857, Brent: 4!
(wonder how Wayne feels about that)

4. When an egg floats in water, it has gone bad and should not be eaten.
(Yuk)

5. The sloth moves so slowly that green algae can grow undisturbed on its fur!
(poor sloths)

6. The electric chair was invented by a dentist!
(imagine that)

Have a great weekend everyone!
Spring Blessings to all

Before Cars

Its hard for me to imagine having to ride in

farm wagons such as this.
However for our fore fathers and some fore mothers
this was a way of life.

International Harvester Co of Chicago

Then came the mighty locomotives.
It made travel a little quicker.
This engine was from the Chesapeake Ohio Railroad.

Your luggage was added to a baggage car.

Heavy trunks for luggage.

A real red caboose.
Its a shame that my grandchildren will never see this at the end of a train.
That's progress though.

Progression was eminent back then too,
with the latest version of hauling freight.

Then came the first race car.

Then came the need for gas stations.

Plus the gasoline trucks.

Can you imagine if our ancestors from the 1800's
time warped to present day?

Sometimes with all of the new fangled technology,
I wish that I could turn back time....

What do you think?

Spring Blessings Everyone

Monday Montage

I want these kitchens.
Am green with envy...
These three kitchens that I am featuring today were
a part of the museum displays
in which Bob and I had the pleasure of visiting last week.
Wish I could have taken them home with me.

First kitchen circa 1830

Loved the trencher, stools and table.

Firkins, baskets, bucket bench oh my.

Now this was an awesome cabinet on the side of the fireplace.
The red color made the blue inside just pop!
Plus that floor..

Second kitchen circa 1890

Simplicity at its best

Dry sink, blue wains coating...even the rug and pump.
Notice the hanging lamp next to the window.
Love, Love Love.

Finally the third kitchen
Circa 1700

This is the biggest spinning wheel I have ever seen.
Just a lovely piece of history.
Could you see yourself cooking in that fireplace?

Now after seeing these pics...
Wish I could have taken them home.
Do you agree with me?
Still green with envy.

Spring Blessings to all.

Day At The Museum and Fun Facts

Boy am I a slacker.
After work, Bob and I went to the movies,
so I did not complete my Friday Fun Facts yesterday.
We decided to go see Men In Black III.
It was good I thought.
If you have seen the first two, then go see this one for sure.

Warning, this is a long post.
OK, here are the facts for this week.
1. It takes about three apples to make one glass of apple cider.
( I do love my apple cider)
2. Sea otters hold hands when they sleep so they don't drift apart.
(Aaaww, that is too cute)
3. A decapitated head stays alive for up to 30 seconds.
(Now that is creepy)
4. The Price is Right debuted in November of 1956,
making it the longest running game show in history.
(Go Bob Barker..oops forgot he retired)
5. More germs are transferred shaking hands than by kissing.
(Yuck)
6. As an adult you have more than 20 sq ft of skin on your body.
About the same sq ft as a blanket that would fit a queen size bed.
(I probably have about 25 sq ft...
as mine has stretched around the mid section)
7. The average person has 100,ooo hairs on their head.
(One exception is Howie Mandel)
Next on the agenda for today.
Wednesday our antique club went t the Henry Ford Museum.
The Titanic exhibit is there now through September.
This is a travelling exhibit.
If by chance it comes to town or city near you,
I highly recommend it.

Bob and I were given a replica boarding pass
from the Titanic Artifact exhibition.
On the back of each boarding pass
was the name of an actual person who sailed on the Titanic.
Bob's ticket number was 30769
This ticket was for Mr. William Gilbert.
Age 47
Mr. Gilbert was sailing from Southampton April 10th, 1912
travelling alone to Butte Montana.

After working several years as a miner with his father in Butte, Montana,
William traveled to Cornwall England for a three month holiday.
He was returning to Butte where his sister Mary ran a boarding house
for many of the Cornish miners living in the area.
William was due back in Montana in March 1912,
but he delayed his return in order to sail on the Titanic.
He was a 2nd class passenger who never made it back to Montana.

My ticket was number 17558.
This ticket was for Mrs. James Baxter
(Helene de Lanaudiere Chaput)
Age 50
Helene Baxter was sailing with her son (Quigg) and daughter (Mrs. Frederick Douglas)
from Cherourg April 10, 1912
travelling to Quebec, Canada.

Helene was returning from Europe where she sought medical advice
for her heart condition.
Helene did not know her son Quigg had sneaked his new found love
Berthe A. Mayne (Bertha de Villiers) aboard Titanic
and installed her in another first class cabin.
Quigg planned to marry Berthe when they arrived in Canada.
All four were 1st class passengers.
Helene lived after the Titanic sank.
Her daughter and son did not.
It is not known if Berthe did.

Just reading about these travelers
gave more meaning to all those who lost their lives
that fateful trip.

Going through the exhibit gave me the chills.
We were not allowed to take pictures, however
seeing items that belonged to the actual passengers...
it was an eerie feeling to say the least.
The Titanic was 11 stories high and was thought to be unsinkable.

Spring Blessings to all
