Monday Montage- Dance To The

Beat of the Snowman March.

 

Alas it snowed at my house over the weekend.

 

Just flurries,

 

however it brought out all of the snowmen in the area.

 

They all started doing the

SNOWMAN MARCH.

 

These drum majors started it all with

their batons of vintage bobbins.

 

Then this guy followed.

 

His speech read ~

 

I wish I May

I wish I Might

See a Snowflake

Fall Tonight

 

The flakes fell in the afternoon.

 

Then there was this snowy guy.

 

Who brought candy canes for everyone

that travelled near and far

to see the

Snowman March.

Everyone loved him the best,

because he had the treats!!

 

Finally these little darlings

wanted to wish everyone

in Hurricane Sandy's path

God Speed and hope all is well.

 

Everyone could use a snow angel

or any angel sometime in their life.

Please say a little prayer for all in Sandy's path.

 

We are already feeling a potion of the storm here in Michigan.

50- 60 mile winds.

All of the lake freighters were sent

to safe harbors across all of the lakes.

Waves on Lake Michigan to reach 33 ft

while Lake Huron on my side to reach 25 ft.

The river is pounding by be with freighters anchored there too.

It Was A Good Morning

 

The one thing I hate about Autumn is

driving to work in the dark.

Also this time of year the deer are running

which makes things more difficult...

not to mention its real hard to get up and get going.

 

Unless of course I see a freighter in the river all lit up

or hear one of my favorite songs on the radio.

 

   Yesterday not only did I see a freighter lit up,

but heard four of my favorite songs in a row. 

 

It was a good morning indeed!

 

Here are a few more goodies I made last week.

 

Ginger Cookies.

Yummy enough to almost eat don't you think?

 

Then I decided to make some sprinkled Christmas Tree cookies.

The sprinkles are glass beads.

 

Ace was not impressed, so hopefully you all are. ~smile~

Monday Montage- Whatcha Working on Now

Too little time

 

Too many ideas floating in my noggin. LOL

 

Here is what I have been up to this past week.

 

Goodies for the store.

 

The grands don't know what to make of the house lately.

 

Pumpkins and Witches next to Snowmen and Gingers.

 

Then there is the boxwoods with cornstalks.

 

My home is certainly entertaining this time of year!

Finished this Santa.

The stocking was from one of my old sweaters.

All about re-purposing. 

 

Still working on this piece.

 

This prim angel has an okra cranberry garland.

 

This one has a dried cranberry and orange garland.

She is my fav...smells wonderful!

 

I have a few more to show off...

saving for a rainy day..

 

Actually they are talking rain the rest of the week here

and snow showers Saturday night.

Yuk that bad four letter word is coming back. LOL

Monday Montage- Fall Goodies

Today's montage is a little more home Autumn pics.
 

 

 

This new pillow is from Trace.

Thank you Trace. Love it!

 

Well that does it.

Was a busy weekend.

Went to my moms in Port Sanilac.

Rained all weekend...but we do need it here.

I am so behind on reading my fav blogs.

Please bear with me...

I may not be able to comment as I can, but will still visit.

 

ps. I do have one more thing to mention.

I forgot to say this in my tutorial..

but I did not bake the candy pieces....thought it would melt the styrofoam.

Sorry forgot this..and will have to edit it in.

Tutorial- Part Tres

Alright, alright

 

here is the next part....

Now you have half a candy when you turn the piece over.

 

Once again, hold end with your thumb.

Twist half a rotation in the same direction as before.

 

Insert needle all the way through fabric again.
 

Do I sound like a broken record?

 

Yes...ok I will stop.

 

 

Oh you meant No did you. LOL

 

 

OK, I will keep going.

 

Wrap around three full times as close as you can get to candy piece.

Take both ends and tie a double or triple knot

close to bottom candy piece and cut floss as close as you can.

 

Once you complete this last step...

 

Walla

 

You have made yourself a piece of candy.

 

Now for the colored muslin pieces.

Take one cup of water and heat (microwave or stove)
Add three heaping tablespoons of instant coffee.
Mix together with some shakes of cinnamon.
*sorry I don't measure my cinnamon*

Then transfer coffee cinnamon mixture to two different containers.
Add terra cotta paint to one container, and add black paint to other.

*again I just pour paint into the mixture*
*no rhyme or reason*
Just add enough paint to your liking. 

 

 When I paint my pieces,
every time I dip my brush, I mix up the mixture.

Usually I let the cinnamon rest a little when I grubby up my goodies,
but when painting my candy I don't.

Tutorial Part Deaux

Are you ready for the next part.

 

Hopefully no one was holding their breath on this one. <smile>

 

Here goes the next part.

 

Place your candy piece in the middle of your wrapper.

If you are using ticking or another fabric other than muslin,

make sure you have the wrong side up.

 

 

Fold one side over tightly.

 

Then fold the other side over.

 



 

Next take one side like so and twist fabric 180 degrees (half a rotation)

(Now I am a leftie, so you might have to reverse this process)

 

Thread your needle using three strands of white embroidery floss.

Insert needle through fabric.

 

 

Once the needle is through the fabric,

hold the end on top part of the candy piece with your thumb.

(at the bottom of this pic you can see the tip of my thumb)

***the floss is directly above***

Wrap floss around the twist three full times.

Make sure you wrap the floss as close to your candy piece as you can.

 

 

Tie the two ends together with double or triple knot

and cut as close to candy piece that you can.

My First Tutorial

Let's Begin...

With this Halloween Candy Tutorial.

Since this is quite a long tutorial...

I am dividing this up into parts.

Also to better show how I make these,
I will be using a green tick fabric.

Material List

Muslin (Halloween) or Ticking material (Christmas)

Flat Styrofoam 1 inch in height (I buy mine at Joann's or Hobby Lobby)

Black and Terra Cotta Paint (Folk Art brand is what I used)

Instant Coffee (Cheaper the better)

Cinnamon (Dollar Store Brand)

Butter Knife (Serrated Edge if you have)

Paint Brush

White Embroidery Floss and Needle

Patterns

Only two patterns required

Candy (round piece 1 3/16 inch in diameter)

Wrapper ( 4 1/2 inches by 5 inches)

Take candy piece and place on styrofoam.

Take your knife and insert straight down.

Saw around the entire circle making sure your knife is straight down.

This is what your candy piece will look like once cut.

Do not worry about it not being a perfect circle.

Remember this prim candy!

Cut your wrapper pattern.

Monday Montage

First I would like to say that I hope all of my Canadian

blogging friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

 

Second it was so cold out this morning that we had our first frost.

 

Today's montage is a hodgepodge of sorts.

 

 

Finally hung our red cabinet in the living room.

 

 

This is a Victorian child's dress hoop.

I hung this on the bedroom wall.

Can you imagine having your children wear this?

 

A corn shuck wreath with a fabric pineapple.

I'm sure most of you know that a pineapple was a sign of welcome.

 

 

A dressmakers hand form.

Used to make ladies gloves.

This one is a size 8 1/2.

 

It was cold enough for a fire yesterday.

 

A cozy one at night.
