Freighters Hunkering Down & Rug Progress

Hi everyone!

Hope all is well.

Here in our part of Michigan we

are having rain and snow.

We are also under a wind warning,

with winds to reach 58 MPH at times.

Because of the bad weather,

and high waves,

the lake freighters have been told to hunker down.

Hunker down they did.

I saw 5 of them anchored close to shore

along our river.

This one, 

the Indiana Harbor which is a 1000 footer,

was anchored about 50 ft from shore.

I went home and grabbed my camera and drove

back up the river about a half mile to take pics of this one.

It was raining and with snow mixed in

 at the time I took these pictures.

They will all stay hunkered down in the safety

of the river overnight.

Now for more progress on my rug.

I finished one corner.

Blues and off whites.

 Working now on the next one.

Well friends, I am going to hunker down myself.

Watch some tv and read some.

Tomorrow I have the day off, 

so am getting an oil change on my car,

Bob and I will be picking up our taxes 

{BOO  HISS}

We owe Uncle Sam.

Then going out for lunch.

Spring Mantle Goodness

Good evening sweet friends.
How is your week going for you?
Do you have plans for Easter?

We always host Easter dinner at our house,

so I like to make our humble abode look

as Springy as I can.

Just have our spare room to finish.

I like to make that room look good too as

my mom sleeps in there.

She so inspired me to decorate for the seasons,

as she use to do it when I was younger.

She would decorate the whole house...
I got the bug from her.

I created part of my Spring mantle
 which is filled with bunnies,
with the help of Pinterest...I so love this site.

Although not so primitive, 

I thought they would fit in with my prim display.

I used tan and white baker's twine for the bunny's bows.

Twine to attach the carrots and bunnies

to hang the swag underneath our mantle.

For the top I added my vintage paper mache bunnies.

Changed up the coverlet on the blanket crane to one

that is cream and black.

Vintage basket in the middle filled with ivy and a few flowers.

Real cypress trees toward each end in silver containers.

(same that I used for Christmas)

  

So love the Spring colors of these bunnies.

Each one different than the other.

I so love bunnies!

Plus I love baskets...so it makes sense to put them together.

Completed mantle Spring look.

Again used the 1 3 5 principal rule.

Now off to fix that one blue flower on the right that 

fell a bit too much to the right.  ;-)

{I hate when that happens}

Those bunnies must have been mischievous.

2 Easy Spring Flower Displays

Happy Sunday everyone!

I forgot that yesterday was April Fools Day.

Did you prank anyone yesterday?

Did you get pranked?

I think Bob forgot too, as he did not do anything to me.

What's in store for your day today?

I am going to finish laundry.

Decorate the spare bedroom for Spring.

Finish my fireplace mantle display...

and then do some hooking.

I made 30 chicken enchiladas with refried beans yesterday,

so warming that up for dinner tonight.

I learned how to make these from my former husband's

grandmother who could not speak English.

I took 4 years of Spanish in school, and she loved

teaching me how to cook. 

She even made her tortillas from scratch.

Although I no longer make my refried beans

 from scratch anymore, I still do not buy them from the can.

I do buy the pinto beans in a can and doctor them up.

The true way is to cook them all day long

 using lots of bacon grease & dried beans. 

Not so healthy, so that's why I don't make 

them that way anymore. 

It still takes most of the day to make the enchiladas,

which is why I make so many.

So enough of my rambling.

Today I wanted to show you an easy way to add

some Spring to your home.

For this display, you will need a wood container.

I used a small grain measure.

Styrofoam in a dome shape, one faux tulip,

and flax.

You can use spanish moss, or green grass or excelsior.

Place styrofoam in your container.

Then take your tulip and place a hole in the middle

of the styrofoam.

Add your filler (flax in mine)

Leave a bit of a hole in the middle to add your tulip back.

Place your tulip back in the hole.

Voila.

Placed next to my lamp.

Completed table display.

For the next flower display,

I used the same principal.

I grabbed a square wood box.

Added 5 Grape Hyacinths.

(2 white and 3 blue)

Then added green excelsior.

If you noticed, the 1  3  5 rule goes for flower displays too!

Hope this gets you in the mood to add

some flowers to your own displays.

Rug Progress

My oh my a week sure does 

go by fast for me at times.

The weekend is already here.

I intended on hooking a bit more on my rug,

but the days got ahead of me.

I only managed to get this much done on it.

The red vase.

I also went in the ditch and added 

some blue/red fabric.

I love how this wool had a bit of mustard in it.

The stripes are going to be various colors

of blues, and off whites.

I am trying to keep it the same color family as can be

from the original...but will change just a few things.

So far I am happy with how it is turning out...

but I have a long way to go.

Now for the winner of my hare giveaway.

I had Bob choose from the names so it would be fair.

I had given a number for each name randomly.

He picked from those.

Can You Say E X C I T E D

I am tickled pink with joy on our new cabinet.

So glad Bob spotted this and wanted to take it home.

Also a bit sad that I am giving up one...

but alas I do not have the room anymore.

Hopefully the next person who purchases

our old cabinet will enjoy it just as much as we did.

(Barb if you are reading this, I know Bob

promised you first dibs on it...

you won't regret it if you purchase it.)

Just a recap.

This was the old one.

This is the new one.

Blue dry paint.

It looks gray in these pics, but it is blue.

Just not a bright blue like our old one.

It is somewhat similar to the dry paint cabinets

we have in our kitchen.

The trencher on top and the hornbeam on the right...

back of the bowl are new items I purchased.

I filled the trencher with fabric eggs for Spring.

Love this hornbeam.

A hornbeam is a part of a tree that would have been

hollowed out to be used as a vessel.

I am also excited that we now

 have a purchase agreement

for our store.

W O O H O O.

As of April 1st, we will officially own the building.

Horsing Around

We welcomed Spring this weekend with

almost 70 degree weather on Friday,

then a cold bitter rain all day Saturday.

I think the rain deterred folks from coming to the show.

Bob and I did ok, but the numbers were down.

I forgot to bring my camera, so sorry. :-(

I did purchase a few things which are still in the van,

We ended up purchasing a dry paint cabinet.

Cannot wait to show it to you all.

It is also still packed in the van.

Bob is going to unload today,

and bring it back home.

Our cargo van was so packed coming home,

that we could barely see each other as we even

had to pack things between us.

We even sold a cabinet and horse, 

but I think because the new cabinet was wider,

it made getting all of our totes harder to get in.

It reminded us of the time we went pickin in our

little Ford Ranger. 

We were like the Beverly Hillbillies with furniture

 packed on top of furniture.

Then it started to rain, so we had to put the tarps on.

Every now and then, Bob had to stop and re-arrange the tarps as the rain and wind would move them around.

We laughed as we reminisced about that trip on the way 

back home last night.

So glad we decided to sell the truck and get a cargo van.

This morning I decided to start digging 

out my Spring decor and felt like horsing around a bit.

Get it? 

HA HA

Getting my horses ready for Spring.

Decided this year to brighten up my Spring

with more white.

Although I love the darker colors.

 Spring is better to lighten up.

Will bring back out the darker colors in the Fall again.

Well enough horsing around for me.

I have to get to cleaning out my jam cabinet

so Bob can bring in the new one when he gets here.

It is currently filled with fabric.

(Bob's painting stuff on top)

Maybe it was meant to be as I recently

took everything I had off of the top.

Some may wonder why I would get rid

 of a nice piece like this.

Well wait til you see the new one.

Bob spotted it first and wanted it.

So when he asked if it could come home,

I said yes immediately and decided to give this beauty up.

The nice thing about owning an antique store.

In other news, we have an appt. this week

with our attorney, to finally purchase our store building.

We decided to take this next step

 and are really excited about it.

What I Adopted and Wool News

Greetings All!

Well I think today was my Monday.

Work was busy and then I drive all the way home,

and realize I left my purse in my desk.

GEEZ.

I hope the rest of the evening will be uneventful.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I did manage to adopt (purchase)

a few things from the show last weekend.

Like this orange stone fruit piece.

Wonderful old basket...

more on this at a later post.

Plus this raw wool.

I have always wanted to hang some of this.

Now just have to decide to really hang it.

I hung it in the bedroom for now so as the kitties

would not start chewing on it...one never knows with them.  

Finally these child's shoes.

I fell in love with the color as soon as I saw them.

A girl cannot have enough shoes I say. :-)

Now for my wool news.

I decided a few weeks back that I had to hook this rug.

I found this picture of an antique rug on Pinterest

and immediately fell in love with it.

I bought my wool at the show.

One of the wool vendors were these

 wonderful couple from Missouri

They had gorgeous wool!

Well I drew it out my rug to look like the antique one.

{ a few mistakes in my drawing }

Will correct once I start though. 

Chose my wool colors.

Note to myself: Get rid of the gold and make 

center flowers a white. 

My blues.

{again gold has to go bye bye}

Hand cutting my worms and placing them in my

buttocks basket.

I love the sun shining through.

Well, just waiting for Bob to get home from the store,

then we are going out to eat.

I had planned on doing Zatarain's Jambalaya,

but when I pulled out the box, it was Spanish Rice.

My bad day just keeps going.

I don't think I am going to work on my rug tonight.

I may screw that up too!

Will show pics of my progress as I work on it.

For now this will be my last post for the week.

Have to get ready for our Breckenridge, MI

prim show this weekend.
