June CupboardScape

 It's Strawberry month...
well for a few days anyway.
For my June CupboardScape,
I grabbed some strawberry items to display.
Most I made myself.
Others are antique or vintage items.

I recently made a strawberry rhubarb pie.
My favorite Spring pie.
Also made a romaine salad with
grilled chicken, cucumbers, fresh strawberries
with strawberry vinaigrette dressing.

Do you like strawberries?
If so, what is your go to recipe to make with
this delish Spring/ Early Summer fruit.

In other news,
I am enjoying seeing the fireflies
twinkle now at night in the trees behind
our house.
Folklore has it they come out
when the wild strawberries start ripening.
Coincidence or truth?

To answer Carol's comment,
the freighters sail all 5 Great Lakes.
However only the ones under 1000 feet can go
through the Welland Canal, so the larger
ones cannot sail into Lake Ontario.

Living here by the river for 24 years now,
I have seen every freighter except for one.
The Stewart J Cort only sails from
Duluth to various ports along
Indiana and Illinois...back to Duluth
all season long.
One day I will make a trip to see it somewhere.
I have kept a yearly log of freighters I have
 seen since I moved here.
Currently 200 different ones have
passed our house this season.
For those interested in seeing where
all the freighters are currently in the lakes,
click below.

You can see them all here.

Strawberry Festival Blessings To All!

  3. I love strawberries. But the wild strawberries are a nuisance in the yard, tho the rabbits probably like them, lol.

  4. That freighter link is amazing, it must be quite something to see all of them! I love the fireflies as well, they’re just something absolutely magical about them.

  5. How close are you to the river to see the Freighters?
I love strawberries. Our strawberries here are ready in March/April. Then the rest of the year in Watsonville, Salinas Valley. They are my favorite.

  6. Your cupboard scape looks so nice! I love it all. I love strawberries. I truly love all berries. I don’t have a specific recipe on the top of my head bc I in general love berries. I love shortcake, salad and strawberries, strawberry sandwiches, strawberry cake and strawberry ice cream.

  7. I like all your strawberries!! :). Yes, I like strawberries. I've been eating mine as the ripen so don't have to make a rhubarb/strawberry cobbler which is my favorite. :)

  8. I love strawberries. However, I’ve been seeing somebody YouTube on that little worm that’s supposed to be in them. Have you ever heard of seeing that? Kind of turns me off from strawberries.

  9. Your strawberries are adorable. I especially love the strawberry stitches. Growing up - and, actually, until the last several years, I wasn't a fan particularly. (Blasphemy, I know! Especially to my father's ears as fresh-picked ones were one of his very favorite treats.) I've learned to love them too...and, as far as favorite recipes go, it's a tie between strawberry/feta salad and strawberry soup.

  11. Strawberry rhubarb pie. Yum. I’ll be right over 🤣
Thanks for the freighter link. Lorain has a deep harbor…if I’m not mistaken I think one of the deepest on Lake Erie.
Not nearly as many freighters enter our harbor as in decades past due to the loss of industries.
To enter the river, our bascule bridge must raise and it seems to take forever for the freighter to pass thru!

  12. Such cute strawberry items! I love strawberries and making jam. The season here was quick and I never got fresh ones from the Amish. Darn it!
