Autumn Mantle

I know this is so cliche...
but Happy Fall Y'All!
Sunday afternoon I did it.
I turned on our furnace.
It was so cold and rainy...
I just needed to get the chill out of my bones.
I know a few of my blogging friends
have already had snow.
B R R R

I love Autumn...
just not the snow and cold that comes with it.

Back at our Holly show,
I was eying this pheasant of ours...
and hoping it would not sell.
Guess no one else saw the beauty in this fella.

Pheasants are getting rare around here.
I have not seen one in at least 15 years.

At my grandparents farms,
you would see them plenty.
Mostly in the grasses.

The grass was their protection.

Therefore I wanted to incorporate grasses.

This fella needed to feel safe.

Just like in the wild.

An awesome tribute to this fine feathered bird.

Do you have pheasants or game birds where you live?

Have a spectacular Autumn day my friends!

Autumn Mantle Blessings To All!
Janice

  2. Love your mantel! No game birds here. Well, besides Pearl.. my daughters 21 yr old Dove that my neighbors always threaten to eat on Thanksgiving. Lol
It's still fairly warm here, I'll be glad to turn of the air conditioning.

  3. We have a pheasant farm about 3 miles from us. It's one where they raise them and release for hunting on their property. When my girls were little and we would see one down closer to our farm, we would say...run little bird..that one "got away" - I'm all for people doing these types of things, really, it's just a few do get away and on occasion come down by our woods too. I've seen them. Your mantle looks amazing.

    1. In Mid- Michigan they have one of these pheasant farms. They also have a deer one. They are allowed only to hunt a certain number...still though wish the wild ones were back. Loved how you said that one "got away" Janice

  4. I loved that pheasant when I saw pics of your stand.Glad you kept him. Grandma's farm is green and clean registered. They ask her recently if they could release pheasants on her property.I'm not sure if she will because she is old and it means letting the fields grow up and since when she passes they will sell off the farm not sure of the responsibility. Anyhoo my point is they are trying to bring up the numbers since their natural habitats are diminishing.

    1. Thank you Amy! Maybe your grandma could let a few acres grow up for the pheasants. It is her decision though. Just wish the wild ones would come back here. Janice

    1. We have one of those farms in Mid Michigan that does this just for hunters on their property. Wish they would let them go. As a child my dad hunted them and they actually were good! Just wish the numbers would come back up in the wild. Too many coyotes around here now. Janice

  7. Used to be a lot of Phesasants around the farms where my family lived. They made a pretty good supper, They are starting to come back out there--I think planted by the DNR. The DNR planted wild turkeys out on the farms 20 years ago. Now we have more than we want.

    1. Wish the DNR here would do this. They are doing it around here for the Eastern Fox Snake...so wish they would do it for the pheasants. I would rather have the pheasants than the snakes. Janice

  13. Pheasants are having a tough time in my area (eastern Iowa). With so much CRP acres plowed to corn & beans, they're pushed to the few grassy creeks and to ditches. Then with cold wet springs during nesting season, not good for nests or hatchlings, the count is way down.

    1. So sad to hear they are declining in your area too! Not good for our environment. Janice
