Hello Friends.
Well on June 16th my baby brother
turned a young 60 years old.
Ever since we have been going to my mom's
he has become fascinated with the freighters.
To the point when I got in the car each time,
he wanted to know if we would see any
on our way up or back from my mom's.
So Bob and I took my brother Tom
over to Harsen's Island for his birthday
so he could see the freighters up close.
Here we are on the ferry getting ready
to take off.
It is a 5 minute crossing.
Big Paul Tregurtha.
This is the biggest freighter on our great lakes.
She is 1,013 feet long.
5 minutes behind.
CSL St Laurent.
This one is 730 feet long.
freighters and decided to take pics
for himself.
This one going down the channel,
while the other two were going up.
Another 730 foot freighter.
I was so glad my brother got to see
some freighters that day.
After the American Mariner passed,
we headed off the island.
It was a good thing we did too...
as it started raining when I was driving
back to catch the ferry home.
We had a nice lunch.
Tom had a BBQ pork sandwich with fries.
I had a Turkey Reuben with fries.
Bob had some kind of Jammer sandwich.
It was Roast Beef, Bacon, sauteed Mushroom,
Swiss Cheese on a Ciabatta Bun with
a Horsey Sauce.
Not for me, but he liked it.
We shared a bucket (6 bottles)
of Labatt's Blue beer.
It is a Canadian beer that we like.
The next evening my sister and BIL,
Bob and I, mom and Tom
had dinner at the Olive Garden
to celebrate my brother's birthday.
He got a free cheesecake
which looked really good.
Bob and I indulged
in a Strawberry Mango Margarita.
I had Chicken Parmesan.
Bob had Steak and Shrimp Tortellini.
Mom had Spaghetti with one Meatball.
The rest had Ravioli with meat sauce.
All in all I know my brother had a few
wonderful birthday celebrations.
I hope he has many many more.
In other news,
The estate sale is over and done with.
Thank the Lord.
Next Monday Tom, Bob and I are
going to head back up to decide
what to do with what is left.
The remaining furniture will probably
be put to the curb for FREE.
We cannot sell it in our store.
Its not in good shape.
The remaining books will be
donated to St Denis Catholic Church
for their book sale.
If anything looks good the rest will be donated to
St. Mary's Catholic church for their
White Elephant sale.
Ladies from both churches approached
my friend who was doing the sale,
asking if we would donate.
She passed the info back to me.
My brother and I agreed to do it.
My mom would like that since
she volunteered at both churches.
Birthday Blessings To All!
Janice

Happy birthday Tom. Am sure you two are glad the sales are over and will be happier when the leftovers are donated and gone too.
ReplyDeleteThe Paul Tregurtha has come to the Port of Lorain. Many of the great lakes freighters were built here.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your brother. Just a baby...lol.
I am sure it is a relief to have the sale over and to donate what is left. One less thing to think about and occupy your time.
Happy Birthday to Tom!! You made his day extra special. Such a nice thing to do.
ReplyDeleteGlad for you that the estate sale is finally over!!
Happy birthday to your brother - It was nice to bring him somewhere to enjoy his freighters. LOL Lunch sounded good. Well finishing at your mom's - almost done.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your brother! I am sure you are so glad to have the estate sale over!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day with your brother. that must be a relief to have estate sale over-a lot of work too hugs
ReplyDeleteHappy blessed birthday to your brother. Sounds like everyone enjoyed his celebrations. Glad you are finished with your mom's sale ,they are hard mentally and physically. Sounds like retirement agrees with you, busy but not at a job. Hope to get in the store one day. Thanks for sharing all your adventures. Have a wonderful week leading up to the nation's big birthday.
ReplyDeleteOh this was a fun post. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your brother.
I love freighters too. We go to watch them at the port in Superior and Duluth.
I think it is so neat we see the same ones, I wonder how long it takes for them to get to Duluth from when you see them.
My hubby and I like Labatt Blue too.
xo
I'd enjoy those freighters as well. So close.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the sale is over and donations are next. That was a lot of work! Happy birthday to your brother. It sounds like a very nice day for all.
Holy cow! Had no idea of the size. Something to see for sure. Glad he had a nice time. My brother is turning 83 and we see signs of dementia. We were fortunate to have salvation army and the women's shelter bring trucks and remove every item in the house. EVERYTHING !!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like such a wonderful day with your brother. timing is everything and yours was great with the freighters! three cheers on wrapping the sale. |It must feel like a huge load off your shoulders.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to celebrate your brother’s 60th, Janice! Loved seeing the freighters and your family time together.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to Tom. How thoughtful of you to take him to see the freighters knowing that he enjoyed them. And a second celebration to boot. Lucky guy (and handsome as well LOL). I’m glad that you’re so very close to having your mom’s house issue behind you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the estate sale is over, Janice! They are SO much work and I sometimes wonder if they're worth the effort. We had one for my parents' things when they moved to senior living back in 2012 and it pretty much wiped us four kids right out. Happy Birthday to your brother--60 sounds very young to this 71 year old :) Loved seeing the freighter photos--I've only seen Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, but have never seen freighters on them. Maybe I was too close to shore or maybe they aren't on those lakes? Enjoy this last bit of June!
