Spring Mantles

These are my Spring mantles for 2026.

Am trying to keep things more simple.

Our living room one.
We actually had a fire to curb the dampness
from the rainy day we had.

Next is our Keeping room mantle.

With textiles, bowls, document box and one bunny.

Plus my two canning crocks.

Finished the Spring Saltbox patterns
last year.

Had them framed and saved for this year.
Now working on the Summer ones.

Found me a German rabbit.
Ain't he cute!

Loving this other simple look.

In other news,
Took mom to get her weigh in and bloodwork
done again the other day. She is losing weight again.
Went from 110.6 to 107.4.
Her doctor wants to see her every 2 weeks now.
Mom complained and I told her
"well if you keep eating sweets and no protein
then you will have to continue going every 2 weeks."
Not to mention your teeth are horrible now.
She needs 2 teeth pilled and a partial
completed on 2 others.

After our 1 1/2 hour trip to the doctor,
I took her to lunch.
She ate walleye and fries with a dinner roll.
I had a 2 slices of personal deep dish
pepperoni and ham pizza with a side salad.
Both were lunch specials.

I then had to go to our local cable company
to find out why my bill went up.
Was told in February when I signed up
for a new plan that I was locked in for 3 years.
The young lady told me it was because
the cable rates went up in January,
I again told her I signed up in February,
Then again she tells me the rate went up in January.
I politely said I understand what you are trying
to say, but January comes before February
and the rate hike would have already happened.
She had no answer then...she then
put my rate back down.

Once again we were under a freeze warning.
Wish Mother Nature would make up her mind.
It was another cold chilly day yesterday,
so I made a Mexican pork chili to warm us up.
Paired with a cold beer it was great I must say.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
Hope in your neck of the woods the weather
is cooperating.

Will you be watching the Kentucky Derby?
I realize it is the longest running sport in Louisville.
I also realize it helps the town with all of the
festivities, food and fireworks.
However most of you know I am not a fan of it,
because about 10 minutes from me is a farm
that brings in horses from Kentucky for slaughter.
It's the ugly truth with horses that DONT win.
They are trucked in up here and sent to Canada.
Just remember not every horse is a winner.
Most owners wont keep them if they dont produce.
The sad truth about horse racing.

Spring Mantle Blessings To All!

  1. If I had a working fireplace, I would have used it yesterday. What's up with Michigan (and everywhere north)? This seems unseasonably cold for May. That's very sad about the horses.

  2. I so miss not having a working woodstove here at the lake I always loved wood heat-at the woods house we had two at both ends of home and it warmed things up nicely.
Nice your Mom could get out a bit. I agree about the horse races-and they all spend too much money on everything happy weekend

  3. I love your mantles. The stitches you add to them are perfect.
Yes, this weather is crazy. We're under freeze warnings on this side of the state too, and yet my allergies are acting up terribly. Makes no sense.
I'm not into horse racing either and that's a very sad truth about it.

  4. Downright chilly and quite miserable in Ohio ☹️
    So sad about the horses.
I am happy I am not much of a TV person so I don’t have to deal with crazy cable prices!

  5. Oh, it's been such a cold, rainy spell lately, hasn't it? We are probably a day behind you in terms of weather here in Pennsylvania. I never remember such a cold, dreary start to May! Love seeing your spring salt box framed finishes and that German bunny is so sweet. I do love bunnies in all forms :) It's very hard to watch parents fail. My mom (who died in 2020) was a mere 74 pounds when she died at age 93. Every time I visited her she would have lost more weight...just shriveled right up. I hope things improve for your mom--she's lucky to have you nearby to look out for her!

  6. Your mantels are so nice.
    I love the saltboxes.
Sorry to hear about your mom losing weight again.
I had the same problem with my dad. Hard to get people to eat when they don't want to!!

  7. Your mantles are pretty. I can't believe your weather - not that way here in GA! I am so sad to find that out about horse racing - why don't they sell them to regular people who want a horse?

  8. Your mantels are simply beautiful and beautifully simple. Yes, it's been cold and miserable here as well...froze the past few nights and flurried the past two days. Today is better and I think the next 2 or 3 are supposed to be good as well...then back to cold. What the heck? I feel badly for your mom...but wish I could skip protein and eat sweets and lose weight. Seems to work the opposite for me LOL. I am sure when I'm her age I will be guilty of the "at this age, I will eat what I want, not what I should" mentality.... Who am I kidding? I'm already there.
