Hello my friends.
This is my first cupboardScape
of the new year.
This is a real simple one...
will explain along the way why
I did this.
Hope you enjoy my story.
This Winter display reminded me
of an actual event that I did.
Growing up my family spent
Christmas week at my maternal grandparents.
Then we spent the next week at my Paternal ones.
Both had dairy farms.
One year as a teen, I decided that
I wanted to give a gift to the barn animals
on my maternal grandparents farm.
Got out my red/ white sled and headed
on out to the back of their property.
They owned 80 acres, and the back
is where all of the woods and pine trees were.
Lots of birch trees and sugar maples too.
Took me an axe and cut down a wee
pine tree.
Went back to the barn.
Filled a wood bucket up with water,
and stuck that lil tree in the bucket.
I figured the cows and horses
needed their own Christmas tree,
although I did not decorate it.
They had a tree nonetheless.
After we left, I never knew
what happened to that tree.
Either my grandpa or uncle
surely must have gotten rid of it.
I never asked.
They never asked me.
Am sure though the one who found it
knew I had done it.
It was a great memory I will never forget.
My display has a sled, a small tree
in an old worn bucket and lots of greens.
Also added in a Winter scene and of course
my favorite bunny.
Back then I loved looking for bunny tracks
in the snow...even today I still do.
In other news,
on Monday my brother and I looked at
two studio apartments for mom.
The one faced the parking lot,
the other faced the woods.
This one had its very own little patio,
We knew my mom would like this one.
Their pamphlet read:
we are professional caregivers who are here
for someone who needs care,
so that all of the sons, daughters,
and family members are able to love
their family members once again.
The good news is my mom and my sister
liked the studio too when they saw it.
We plan on having my mom moved in
by month end.
With her house...we do not plan on doing
anything until Spring.
Hoping once mom is moved in
that the texts and phone calls from my sister stop.
She constantly calls and texts both my brother and I.
My SIL was moved to a therapy facility.
She remains the same..so prayers for her
would be appreciated.
Yesterday we saw our first bald eagle sightings for the year.
The ice came down fast and furious Sunday.
The river ice always brings the eagles in...
and we love seeing them.
Again I was long winded. LOL
January Blessings To All!
Janice

First of all, I'm glad you have found a spot for your mom that looks homey and inviting with good care. That will be a huge relief for all of you, and perhaps she'll settle better than you think she might, once she meets some of the other residents.
ReplyDeleteAnd that arrangement and those memories! Oh, that sounds so magical, making a tree for the animals and caring so much, checking the tracks. I can just imagine it and think what a fabulous thing to be able to have in your memory bank. Love it so much!
Good news on the apartment for your mom! Good choice on the one with the woods & patio view. While it might be interesting to watch comings and goings in the parking lot, my luck is I'd be need to keep the curtains shut due to the sun reflecting off vehicles and the blinding bright LED headlights so common now. And if she really is developing demential, a calm view seems like a very good thing for her.
ReplyDeleteSweet little cupboard arrangement from your memories!
I like your cupboardscape and especially love the story that goes with it. I think that's the sweetest!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you've found a place that everyone agrees with and hope it gives a little peace to all of you. It's been a long, hard road.
Hooray for the eagle sighting!
I like the story scape for January. I hope the transition to assisted living goes well! You are almost retired. I told my husband just now that I've read your blog for years and the countdown to retirement...it's now here.
ReplyDeleteGreat winter stitchery to go with your memories. My two cousins and I used to play in my grandfather's hay building. We'd climb over the bundles, sometimes they would break open and we managed to get a lecture later as he knew who 'done it'.
ReplyDeleteHope your mother will be happy with her new home and also hope they have security so she doesn't wander off since she is showing signs of dementia.
Good morning I enjoyed your post. The space sounds perfect for your Mom-she take a lot of stress off of you after she moves in-hoping she will love it there and meet new friends hugs
ReplyDeleteSweet story...and sweet cupboard scape (I like Jacky's term "story-scape"). I'm sure the animals enjoyed their Christmas that year. I'm so glad you found a place for your mom. It sounds wonderful. There were so few choices for my mom and none of them good, despite the fact that she worked hard all her life and her entire retirement went to pay for it. I've seen/read of others who have found wonderful facilities for their family members needing care. I feel bad there weren't any such options for my mom. We felt fortunate to get her out of the first place where she had to share a bathroom and other residents were allowed to come in her room and take her things...or worse.... :-(
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute story and memory.
ReplyDeleteGlad that things seem to be settled with your mom.
You have such sweet childhood memories. Lucky you.
ReplyDeletePrayers that the apartment will be just what your mom needs 🙏
I love the story of the little barn Christmas tree! Sweet memory. I'm excited you're moving your mom into this studio apartment. That should be a goid thing and I pray your mom will be content and happy there. I truly hope your sister-in-law starts feeling better. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. Glad you found a place for mom that everyone likes. Hope she finds new friends and activities there that she will enjoy. Prayers for your SIL to improve.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you found such a nice place for your mother!
ReplyDeleteJanice, so good to see you back. You were missed. Glad to hear things are moving along with your family. Prayers things go smoothly. That was a sweet Christmas story and of course your decor is lovely. Stay warm , thinking of you
ReplyDeleteI loved the story, a sweet Christmas story that could be a fun children's book.
