May CupboardScape

Hello my friends.
It was nice having last weekend off finally.
Am still working overtime,
but having the weekend off was so needed.
Will take this weekend off too.
Will be attending the burial of my aunt.
She passed in February, however they
were not able to bury her due to the ground
being frozen.
I will be taking my mom as it was her
younger sister who passed.
Since it is outside we are allowed to attend.

Sunday I will work on more
Halloween goodies...

Today my CupboardScape was inspired
by both my gramma's.
Each Spring they would do their
 cleaning outside.

Gramma H would grab her bucket
and wash the many windows
she had on her farmhouse.
With all of the windows in her
2 story farmhouse,
including 2 enclosed porches,
there were 24 windows.
that is a lot of window washing.

Both gramma's used rug beaters
to clean their rugs.
Gramma B put hers on the cement well cover,
while gramma H hung hers from the clothesline.
(this rug beater is called a bat wing one)
(the rug was one of my gramma B's)

This rug beater is a heart one.
The wood piece is a wood mangle,
which would be used to scrub your clothes.

This is a pillow beater.
It would be used to beat your feather pillows.
Gramma B did this to hers.

Of course scrubbers and soap
would be including in Spring cleaning.

This CupboardScape was a tribute
to my gramma's.
They had a most tedious job
of Spring cleaning.

Storms slated for today's weather.
Better than snow we had last week.

Have a marvelous day my friends.

Spring Cleaning Blessings To All!
Janice

  1. A beautiful tribute to your grandmas. I remember spring cleaning. Every part of the house was scrubbed, walls, floors and windows. Weekly washing of bed sheets hung on the line. We had a glass scrub board instead of a wooden on. It had a wooden frame and I scrubbed clothes on one of them and wrung the cloth with my hands, rinsed and wrung and hung on the line. It smelled so good once the clothes were dried in the breeze and brought in. It was a slower time I still cherish.

  2. So Sorry about your aunt passing. We haven't been able to attend any funerals. I have had 2 family members passing just recently and a parishioner also.

  3. What a lovely way to honor your grandmothers! Spring cleaning was a yearly event in my house growing up...lots of fresh, lighter curtains ironed, bedspreads changed out and the smell of lemon oil furniture polish. Simpler times. Stay well.

  4. Hi Janice,
Such a lovely tribute to your two grandmas!! You sure make spring cleaning look inviting with your sweet display, even though it was LOTS OF WORK!! We had a routine when I was growing up, too!! Not my favorite time as a child!! lol
Happy you have some time off from work and hope you have a great weekend!!

  6. Spring Cleaning was a chore I'm sure! I didn't know that round one was a pillow beater...cool. I hope the funeral goes as well as can be expected.

  7. Your cupboard scape this week is especially meaningful and timely, for spring house cleaning time is here. I remember my grandmother making bars of lye soap. I have my grandmother's rub or scrub boards.

  8. I like the heart rug beater. It's odd to think of Halloween so soon, but then you're in retail -- you must!

I hope all goes well with the memorial and that you can finally do this. Stay well and safe.

  9. I think, in part, that is why I treasure the old household items and tools of housewifery of the past....all the hands that held them and all the many times they were used, carrying the echos of the harder, but simpler, days. You have some great examples....and oh, that rug is a true beauty! Hope the day has been good to you...it has been a cold, steady, rain all day...not much inspiration for spring cleaning LOL. ~Robin~
