A Partridge In A Pear Tree

Happy Monday to all of my friends!
Today is December 2nd.
It is also my 61st birthday.

After work,

 Bob and I will be going out for dinner,

 and then do some Christmas shopping.

Today I feature the 

partridge in a pear tree.

Besides the partridges and the pears,

I also added tallow berries and

candy canes.

These white tallow berries were purchased

from an online store called

Curious Country Creations.

The Chenille candy canes were purchased

years ago from an Ebay seller.

So sorry, do not remember the seller.

Today my story is about candy canes.

Back in 1670

a German Choirmaster

wanted to get the attention

of his students

during the long Nativity scenes.

He decided to bend a candy stick

into the shape of a Shepherds hook.

Others took it to represent the letter J

for Jesus.

Although it is not known for sure
if the Colonists used candy canes,
they did seem to appear in America by 1847
By the late 1800's
the red stripe began appearing.

At least we do know they were invented
before the 1700's.

Since I have so much to share,
I will be doing my posts every other day
now until Christmas.
