  1. Way back when I was little for "safety" reasons my dad always inspected my candy haul. It seemed strange that all the "bad" candy was the big 5 and 10 cent bars that were also my dad's favorite. Not to worry, it did not take me long to figure him out ! ! :}

  2. Your pillow is so enchanting! I love the way it reminds me of how Halloween used to be with witches (and black cats and ghosts) instead of superheroes! Childhood memories, oh my! Well, my most vivid is that after Halloween when I was eight I put myself on a diet and rationed my Halloween candy! What was I thinking?! (I don't do that anymore and you can tell -- but I try to be reasonably good and not open the bags till the trick-or-treaters come to the door! (OH, and I always gave my dad the Necco wafers because he loved them. And I really didn't!)

    1. Rationing Halloween candy. Never heard of such a thing. Necco went out of business now. It was the oldest candy factory and a shame it is no loner. The initials were for New England Confectionery Company. Janice

  3. I lived in what was then the country so no trick or treating in my area. We had to go to town...and once I was denied a treat because I was not from their neighborhood. How could someone be so awful? I always hated getting apples as a treat...lol!

    1. How sad. My mom lives in a small town and most of the kids come in from the farms. I hated apples and pennies. I wanted candy. Janice

  4. Loved Halloween, ...I remember waiting for it to get dark enough to go out! One year I did dress up as Maynard the beatnik from Dobie Gillis....froze my butt off, because all I wore was an oversized sweatshirt and black leotards!

  5. I think your pillow is so cute and yes I would love it! Here's my favorite Halloween memory. In the old days you didn't worry about crazy folks putting stuff in candy and also it was safe to eat popcorn balls. But the best house was the one where the lady made homemade donuts and put them on the porch and it was on the honor system...just one and we loved them and made it our first stop! Plus they were fresh and so good to eat while going on our way for trick or treat! So glad I had those fun times!

  6. Janice, what a great give-away. Since the Cottage Witch is not coming around this year (she went all goofy and is hanging around Santa too much) I would love to see that sweet little witchy-poo pillow in a place of honor at the Cottage. My halloween story isn't a fun one, at least it wasn't at the time, I must have been about 5th grade. That was when parents were not afraid to let their kids wander the streets in the country at night alone for trick or treating, and it was something all us kids looked forward to. About a week ahead, I was walking home from the school bus with some friends and we were talking about poison oak. It grew all along the roadside and my big mouth said "I never get poison oak" and took a handful and rubbed it on my face. Well, end of story, I couldn't go out with the kids trick or treating that year. My face was swollen up like a balloon and it was not a fun time..Good luck to everyone..Happy Fall and thanks for your sweet visit..xxoJudy

  8. Shopping for that one costume that would complete the Halloween Trick or Treating candy feast! I am dating myself but Woolworth's Department Store had an awesome ghoulish selection.

    1. Oh I remember Woolworth’s and Kresge’s so I am dating myself too! My mom made our costumes and we would shop for the pattern we wanted each year. She even made my kids costumes each year. The fun good ole days. Janice

  9. I would love to have her!
    My fav early Halloween memory was being dressed up as a pumpkin. Mom fashioned a wire frame and orange tissue paper piece to side down over my head. It was all very exciting until I discovered I couldn’t sit down without it tearing, so I stood the whole night!

  11. How fun! I dressed my daughter in purple grapes one year made from balloons and she could not sit down either...but loved it. We did a wire frame like yours. Thanks for sharing your story! Janice

  12. Love your sweet give away and always reading your blogs. Just like a coffee klatch. I have very few Halloween memories, strange isn't it. I remember we would be the standard ghosts, scarecrows and Angel's. Loved the candy because we never got much, lol. My kids dressed as women, hobos, Angel's, old men and so much more. They went out till early 20s just to have fun. Have a wonderful day.

  13. Thanks for stopping by Sandy! ghosts, scarecrows and angels sound great. We pass out candy at the store each year now and I love how the kiddos dress up. Janice

  14. HI Janice, I am back from Ireland and able to post again. Despite my being denied access to comments, I have been following along your fall projects and enjoying them! Your new Witch Pillow is so cute! That face!!

    Halloween has been my favorite holiday since I was little. I think my favorite memories included digging out the costume box from the attic and figuring out what I wanted to be. We never bought costumes but rather put something together from all sorts of stuff in the box. I also loved that Mom made fresh pumpkin pie from the meat of the pumpkin that we carved. What a treat to have a slice of her homemade pie before heading out the door with friends to Trick or Treat!

  15. What a fun memory Winnie. Having a costume box would be so much fun. Especially with homemade pumpkin pie! Hope you had a wonderful time in Ireland my friend. Janice
