Throwback Thursday

Good evening sweet friends.
Hope all are doing well.
Tonight I decided to do my own version
of a throwback Thursday.

One of my kitchen cabinets decorated last Autumn.

Another Autumn pic of our back room.
Soon the mustard and red will be changed...
still deciding on what color to change the walls though.

Kitchen display.

Corner of living room.

Same corner after redo.
Notice the new entry into our kitchen to the left.
We wanted to open up things a bit.

Today Bob and I took the grands on our annual
trip to Harsen's Island.

Map of Harsens Island

The island is about 2 miles from our house.

We have to take the car ferry to get over.
They love the ferry ride over even though it is only
a 2 minute ride.

We do lunch out on the covered patio,
in hopes of seeing a freighter go by.
Today we saw 4..which is a record for lunch.
Last year was 3.

Image result for harsens island mi

Not one of the actual freighters we saw,
but the ones we saw are similar.
We have the same freighters by our house,
only the big river is much bigger than the channel
on the island, so they are closer in.

After lunch we went back to the house and they played
with friends in the neighborhood.
Then for dinner we went and has sushi.
My grands love sushi!

Well off to watch some tv.

July CupboardScape

Good afternoon Sweet friends.
What better to feature for a July
CupboardScape.

To honor our country
for our Patriotic month,
coverlets in red, white and blue...
with a touch of gold.

Dated coverlets can be found between
the years of 1771 thru 1889.

Coverlets were woven on looms,
not quilted and were placed on top
of bedcovers.

Geometric, Fancy, Floral and even figures
and slogans were made into coverlets.

Since looms were not very wide,
usually two or even three were pieced together
with a center seam.
Even better, they are reversible,
so you get two looks for one.

Since men made coverlets,
a little known fact is if you see a woman
woven into a coverlet, it was
specifically made for the mistress of the
home at the time.

Do you have any coverlets?
If so what does your patterns look like?

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Good evening sweet friends.
With the heat coming on

inside our home.
This heat being lighting from our lamps.

For those that are affected by this latest heat wave,
please do not overdo things outside.
Stay inside if you can and enjoy your own heat.

A New Twist On An Old Favorite

Good afternoon sweet friends.
Yesterday was a lazy Saturday for me.
After Bob and I went to an estate sale,
I went grocery shopping, did the laundry
and caught up on tv shows I had on our DVR.

It was a relaxing day for sure,
but my mind wandered again to Halloween.

So I once again took pencil and paper,
and drew up a candy corn, and sewed a few up.

A sweet confection of white, orange and yellow.

Created black jack-o-lanterns out of wool.

Stuffed the candy corns.

Stitched the jack on the candy corn.

Attached the brown flecked wool stem using
both a blanket stitch and running stitch.

For a twist on an old favorite.
Do you like candy corns?
What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Mine are Mallow Cups.
A chocolate coconut treat my sister and I loved.
We kept the little square card which had points on it.
We saved those cards to use for prizes in the catalog.
Today if you purchase these candies,
the goal is to save 500 points and receive
$2.00 back in the mail.

BOO To YOU

I hope this post finds everyone well.
It sure is a HOT one here today
in our neck of the woods.
Hoping some rain comes in this evening
as predicted by our weathermen.

Today I thought I would let you see my latest
creation, which is a candle mat.

This mat is made out of fall colored fabric
whilst the words are in a gray wool.

The letters are hand stitched.

I left one block untouched,
so you can easily place your candle there.

The back side is a different gray calico print.
There is also a layer of batting in between.

Kindly asking $15.00 plus shipping.
If interested, please email me at
primsbythewater@yahoo.com.
I only allow so many to me sold via my blog,
as I need some for our show and store.

Garden Delight

Good evening sweet friends.
I have been seeing many of you
showing your flowers blooming,
so I thought I would show you our
latest garden we planted this Spring.
Now in full bloom..well almost.
Our front garden has been a work in progress
for two years now.
Next year more will be added,
but for now here is what is blooming.

I bought these pillows at Joann's,
when they had their 50% off sale.

The green shrub in back is a Spice plant.
It already bloomed maroon flowers.

A view of our willow chair with one of
my purple butterfly bushes in back.

Next to the chair is this birdhouse.
This is the first year the wrens have not used it.

Creeping Thyme blooming in between
the flagstone of our walkway.

Same creeping thyme before blooming,
along with a violet towards the top.

Yellow yarrow,

My limelight hydrangea just starting to bloom.

Red twig dogwood to the right,
chocolate chip ajuga in the middle
and blue fescue grass on the left.

Close up of the ajuga.

Maroon wave petunias with honeysuckle
climbing up the chicken wire.
Next year you probably wont see the wire.
The hummingbirds love this!

Another purple butterfly bush.
This one is a bit darker.

Look forward to seeing more of your gardens.
Do you have favorite flowering plants of your own?
