Monday Montage- Our Full Fun Weekend

We sure had a jam packed Friday and Saturday.
I want to thank everyone for the anniversary wishes!

Whilst we were packing our overnight bag.
we had a stowaway.

Who can this be?

Why it is our little kittie Ace.
He can be such a little stinker at times.

We headed up to Port Sanilac to my mom's house.
Once we got to my mom's, we headed into town
to the Farmer's Market.

An Amish mom and her son were there too!
I respected their privacy and did not take their picture.
However, these are the goodies I bought from her.

Cinnamon Rolls

Mini pies, Molasses and Pineapple Cookies. Yum!

Our next stop was for an early dinner.
At the Blue Water Inn in town.
In my 20's this place was just a bar with live bands on the weekend.
They took the original outside sign and placed it inside.
My cousin and I spent many 2:00 am last calls in this place....
now its hard for me to stay up past midnight. LOL

Then at 6:00 we had slight scare.
The tornado warning sounded off in town.
My mom had the weather on and a funnel cloud was spotted 15 miles
East of Port Sanilac moving in the direction of my mom's.
She got her flashlight and radio ready and we kept looking outside
ready to head to her storm shelter if necessary.
The sky to the North of her was purple- black and fortunately
the all clear was sounded a half hour later.

At 7:30 we headed to the barn theatre for a comedy play called "Drinking Alone"

Picture of the curtain.
They have had plays in this circa 1900 barn
every Summer since 1980.

Side entrance with a player piano.
Cement Floor.
The play was really funny and we laughed throughout the show.

Saturday we drove over to Frankenmuth
visited our favorite antique stores in the area,
and of course we had to have
the Famous Chicken Family Style dinner

at the Bavarian Inn.

Dinner consisted of
Stollen bread with strawberry rhubarb jam.
Chicken Pasta Salad
Cole Slaw
Chicken Noodle Soup
Fried Chicken
Mashed Potatoes/ Gravy
Buttered Noodles
Dressing
Cranberry Salad
Mixed Veggies (Broccoli, Cauliflower and Carrots)

Did I say it was all you can eat?
Yup it was.

Then for dessert we had orange vanilla swirl ice cream
with gingersnap cookies.

They had to roll us out after that. :-)

I'm getting hungry now. LOL

Our last stop was at Bronner's Christmas Shoppe.
This place is so huge!
You may visit their website at
to see some of the items they carry.
They are open 361 days for all of your Christmas ideas...
except primitive...
but it is still awesome to go inside!

Monday Blessings to all!
(Will take me a few days to catch up on all of your blogs)
Take care,
Janice

Its My Anniversary

I would first off like to wish everyone a a Happy (Wed) Hump Day!

Most importantly
(To me anyway)
Its my wedding anniversary!
Happy Anniversary Honey (Bob)!
I would not have it any other way.
Bob is not only my husband, but my friend and partner in life.
Unfortunately we have a neighborhood meeting tonight,
so we won't be able to celebrate.
However, Bob has someone working the store both Friday & Saturday,
and we are going to play (have fun) then.

On another note.
Buttercup is a little perturbed with me.

She has been sewn up,
painted and grunged
and patiently waiting for a face.

I promise Buttercup, I will get to you today
so that you and your other siblings
will find a new home in my giveaway.

Wednesday Blessings to all!
Janice

Monday Montage

Goodies we bought at the show are featured in today's montage.

Early blue painted pail with wire handle.

Stenciled top.
This was a herring pail.
Now resides on my bucket bench in the kitchen.

1900 Gold Medal Wood Box

Close Up

This primitive ladder will be sold in our store.
All hand hewn and definitely a great piece to hang quilts.
(I already have one, so this one will have to go)

Well, I have more to share, but my camera died on me.

More to share later.
Boy its hot out again.
Once again temps are in the 100's
So looking forward to Autumn.
Blessings to all
Janice

It Was One Of Those Days

It was one of those days yesterday.
Thanks to every one's well wishes.
I was extremely busy at the shoppe.
Bob did great at the show.
The consensus from those I asked that came to the store...
More vendors next year and it was a good show!
I am so proud of my hubby for pulling this of in the short time he had.

Today is the final day,
so I hope all of the vendors do as good!

Yesterday I showed you the Windsor chair I was able to purchase.
Well there is a story to this chair that I forgot to tell.
It was one of those days.

I actually saw this same chair about four years ago.
In our state of Michigan,
we have an antique trail similar to the I27 one
that goes through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky
 and on up to Michigan.
Our Michigan Trail starts were Bob and I live in Clay Township, MI
and goes all through our Thumb Region as it is called
up to Port Austin, Michigan.

It was one of those days.
Bob and I had our little truck that year.
We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies as the truck
was filled as high as we could go.
We stopped at this one spot with all kinds of furniture
all set up in the woods.
We purchased a few things,
but I also spotted two Windsor chairs out there under a tree.
It was like they were calling out to me.
I immediately got the chills as I knew these were old.
I asked the couple in charge of their sale
how much for the chairs.
The wife said.
$600.00 for each.
Even though I knew that was a bargain,
my heart sank as we needed our money to buy items for the store.
I could not spend that much on one chair at that time.
It was one of those days.

That same Winter,
Bob and I joined the BWADA
Blue Water Antique Dealers Association.
At our fourth meeting,
that same couple came that owned the chairs.
I was shocked to find out they were in fact dealers themselves.
I asked about the chairs and she told me she decided to keep them.
It was one of those days.

Back to Friday.
That same  couple, Dave and Judy,
set up at our show in town.
when once again I spotted those Windsor chairs out there,
I had to go over and find out how much they were.

I could not believe my eyes when the price tag said
$220.00
Wow, I was in shock again.
Now knowing Dave and Judy,
and telling her that I would like to purchase just the one chair
for my own home.
She said I could have my choice for $160.00
It came home with me.
It was one of those days!!!

Sunday Blessings to all!!

PS. tomorrow more pics of what we bought....

Take care,
Janice

I Am Such A Tease

I went over to the show after closing the shop yesterday.
All I can say is WOW
Wish you could be here!
I scored big time!

Since I am such a tease,
will show you in another post.

First I want to show you some of the booths set up.
It is going to be a beautiful day outside on the river.

Radios of all kinds

Vintage Feed Sack Quilts and Bar Ware.
This lady is called the Cocktail Queen
I tried to purchase the quilt on the left,
but she is selling them as a set.
Not sure why?
I did not like the one on the right as it had too much purple.
(She folded it up this way after I left)
I could have bought the other one,
but she raised the price on it for just the one.
Guess some dealers don't want to sell items.
Oh well, I scored on something else anyway!
Wait til you see it....
I am such a tease!

The sun was coming up over the river.
Can you see it behind these tents?
Some nice furniture in this booth.
Did I find my goodie in this booth?
Nope.
I am such a tease.

Some Prim Wares
Can you see what I bought from here?
I am such a tease.
Not this booth.

The gal on the left is Carmel.
She sells antique clothing, jewelry and antique cosmetic items.
She has been my friend forever!
Love ya Carmel! Hope you do good!
The gal in the middle is Linda.
She helps Carmel out at her shows.
I've known Linda just as long as the two of us worked
at the same bank when we were in our 20's.
Did I score from my friend?
No, not  this time.
I am such a tease!

This vendor sells antique toys and advertising.
Was it this booth that I scored?
Hmmm...no prim items in here,
so I don't think so.

Unfortunately, Bob did not take pics
of the booths that had the prims in them...
So hopefully in the morning,
I can shoot some pics...
if there is anything left.
That's what I get for sending a man to do a woman's job. LOL

Ok. I've teased you enough.
Here is what I scored!

This awesome 1700's Windsor Chair.

I loved the chippy look of this.
These chairs are becoming so rare,
that when I saw it,
I knew it had to come home with me.
3 layers of paint.
Bottom 1700's Mustard
Blue 1800's paint in the second layer
Finally, early 1900's black paint on top.

So what do you think?
Did I score?

Warm Blessings,
Janice

Surprise- I'm here

Hello everyone!
Wish I could call each and every one of you
to say that I greatly
appreciate you all following me and
leaving comments on my blog.

Today I am on vacation from my real job as a banker
(commercial loan officer) real title
to tend our shoppe
while Bob sets up for our antique show in town.

Bob and another shoppe owner in town
with the help of our local Chamber of Commerce
have re-instated the annual antique show on the river.
The show will start Saturday (tomorrow) and end Sunday
with over 30 vendors peddling their wares.

So while I am here at the store,
I thought...hmmm
It's Friday
so what should I do...

Friday Fun Facts!

1. Adding Vodka to your laundry will kill bacteria in your clothes.
(hmmm...not sure if I want to waste it on laundry)

2.  You will never be able to count to a trillion out loud in your lifetime.
(I think it would be hard to even count to a thousand for me. LOL)

3.  Researchers say after 25 years of marriage
that you start to look like your spouse.
(anyone out their that can attest to that one)

4. The Lion King is the Number One VHS tape of all time.
(and it will always be with the demise of VHS to DVD's)

5. If you could throw a brick through the center of the Earth,
it would take only 45 minutes to reach the bottom.
(how do they figure these things out?)

Hope you liked my little surprise.
I am also so tired of this heat that I decided to change
my blog header to Autumn displays...
hoping that the heat disappears for awhile....

Anyway, I will be at the store the entire weekend
so I won't be able to finish my last pumpkin.
Hopefully I will be ready my mid week.
So tell all of your friends to follow me
and they will be able to get in on the giveaway.

Warm Blessings to all,
Janice

Monday Montage- Inky's Story

Good morning Y'all.
I am the most amazing, marvelous, rare and unique squash y'all will ever meet.
My name is INKY

It's nice to finally meet you
as I have been waiting patiently for my debut.
My maw maw felt sorry for me,
so she said my story could be today's montage.
Hope this is alright with y'all.

See it's like this,
my maw maw decided to create me fourth
in her series of mini squashes.
Not that I am a bitter coot. No.
I'm glad to be a part of the kinfolk.
It is just hard on a little guy like me
growing up as the fourth in the family.
I get no respect.
No one even likes playing with me.

Like just the other day I wanted to play Tug O War
with Jack Be Little.
He was reluctant but finally gave in.
Then he got mad at me something fierce for winning.

I mean it's not my fault he lost part of his turban.
The game is called Tug O War after all.

Oh and then there is my sister Miss Custard.
It seems she cannot take a joke.
I decided to tease her by calling her
Miss Cussie!

Didn't think it was that bad,
but then she had to go and rat on me.
Then I called her Miss Hussie
and she stormed off on some tantrum.

Now I heard through the grapevine
that my maw maw seems to think that I am
the black sheep of the family.
Really maw maw?
I think you needs some glasses
cuz I knows I ain't like this sheep at all.

Oh yeah am suppose to show you some pictures.
Here ya go!

Newest cabinet that maw maw and pa have in their store.

Lightning Rod with Purple Globe and Wrought Iron Arrow.

Two huge Bread Noodle Boards.

Glass Finger Kerosene Lamps and an Antique Mirror.

That does it fer now.
Y'all come back and visit here with me again.
Master Inky signing off.

PS: Maw maw said I needed to practice my speaking,
so I thought I would do this post in my best Southern accent,
cuz my speeching ability is already good!

Take care

Lets Keep This Our Little Secret

Hello everyone
My name is Hubbard.
Mommy Janice told me never to talk to strangers.
But I know you are all her friends,
so I figured it was alright.

Shhh...she does not know I am writing this post
My sister Miss Custard is such a little tattle tale,
so we have to keep this between us, ok?

I knew that I could count on mommy's friends!

Just so you know
I overheard mommy talking to Bob (our daddy)
She was telling him that it had been a long time
since she has had a giveaway.
Yep, you heard me right.
She told him that she was not sure if she should do
a Christmas in July giveaway again
or possibly a giveaway of Lil Ole ME.

I say give me away!
I want to explore the state, the country, or even
 The World...
Ok, I would like to go anywhere but here with that brat
Miss Custard.

I heard that Hubbard!
Mommy said she was going to give us all a new home,
not just you.
Plus she is not done making all of us yet.
MOMMY
MOMMY
Hubbard told your secret.
Be quiet Custard before you get me in trouble.

HUBBARD TURBAN SQUASH
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

Now you did it Custard.
Mommy heard you and is calling me by my entire name.
I will probably be grounded back to the garden.
I hate being in the dirt.
Dang you little tattle tale.
Gotta go everyone.
Until next time.
Yours truly
Hubbard T Squash

Peek A Boo

When our mommy created us
she taught us this really cool game.

You might remember playing this yourself.
It's called

Peek A Boo

My name is Miss Custard and I am on the left.

My brother is Jack Be Little.
He does not play the game right.
See he is showing off again.

Our mommy created us from
My Primitive Saltbox Pattern.

We are Turban Squashes

Peek A Boo

Do you like our green turbans?
Shhhh...don't tell my brother but
I think he needs a haircut.

We may be small as our tiny bodies are only 2 1/2"
but we have a big heart.

Our mommy is working on adding to our family.
So come back and visit when you can.

Take care and stay cool
Miss Custard

PS...my mommy Janice said I could write this post.
How did I do?

Monday Montage- Shades of the Season

This has been one busy Summer already...and it has just started. LOL
Since I have something going on each weekend this month,
I am going to have to suspend Friday Fun Facts until later on.

Hope you enjoy the pics today.

Collection of firkins, a pantry box, piggin bucket and pie peel.

I placed 6 blue canning jars in a prim cutlery tray.
Added some fauz shasta daisies, red firecracker flowers and eucylyptus.
Uncle Sam sits inside a snow on the mountain enamelware cup.
A fun kitchen tablescape for the Fourth of July.

Shasta daisies in a patriotic basket with a bowl of strawberries.
A candle sits on a rusty star candle pan on my wood trunk in the living room.

Another patriotic display next to our fireplace brick.

A tribute to the red, white and blue with this flag next to a stack of wood measures.

Faux hydrangeas in a wall basket with Old Glory.

I use mostly faux flowers because my kitties like to try and eat flowers.
I do not want them eating something they should not be.

July 4th Blessings to all!
Janice
